Cicero — To the editor:
I want to express my appreciation to all the voters I met while campaigning who encouraged me to use my experience to better their lives in Onondaga County. I would have been deeply honored to represent and serve the residents of the Third District. It’s something I would not have taken lightly or for granted. I appreciate the support from all the people who voted for and supported me.
It was a very close election.
I was prepared to work with all my legislature colleagues. For too long, the legislature has been crippled by personalities and politics. That has to stop. Each of the legislature’s 17 members represent a constituency and those constituencies deserve respect. It is wrong to ignore and disregard any legislator because of their political party or beliefs. Certainly we would have had disagreements, but it is essential that everyone work together for the good of the county. The voters elect legislators to do a job and not to play petty politics.
This campaign truly was a team effort. We had a fantastic group of dedicated volunteers who worked exceptionally hard. We stayed focused on the issues and kept our campaign above board and honest. When you focus on the issues, you do not have to lower yourself to misleading advertising and sleazy attack politics. Although the outcome did not go our way, we have nothing to be sorry about. I am proud of our campaign.
This indeed was a very close election. In a district of 17,000 voters, a little more than 100 votes separated me from my opponent. But now the election is over and he has a job to do.
Thank you all.
