Onondaga — Given the name of the event, it only figured that Baldwinsville’s indoor track and field teams would flourish during the afternoon session of Wednesday’s Oscar B. Jensen Holiday Relays at SRC Arena.
In fact, the boys Bees would finish on top, picking up 66 points to hold off Fayetteville-Manlius (64 points) for first place, and the B’ville girls were strong, too, getting 62 points to take second place behind those same F-M Hornets, who had 84 points.
This event was scored by having two combined times, distances and heights used in races and field events, with no four-runner relays used.
Not only did Evan Donhauser win the individual 55-meter hurdles in 8.02 seconds, he, along with Nate Cutie, got the team victory in 17.88 seconds, with Skaneateles (18.50 seconds) and the field behind them.
Later, in the 600-meter run, Evan Vannatta beat the field in 1:28.98, just as he and Adam Davis, who was third in 1:32.15, combined for a first-place time of 3:01.13, with runner-up West Genesee (3:05.46) well back.
B’ville actually tied for first with Altmar-Parish-Williamstown in the shot put. Between them, the Bees’ Judson Fletcher, who had the best individual throw of 39 feet 1 1/4 inches, and Dom Pedercini went 72’2 1/2″, but so did the Rebels’ Takota Jacobson and Kenny Bush.
Sam McIlroy and Connor McManus competed in the 3,200-meter run and, together, were second in 22:03.93 behind F-M’s 21:23.21. Kieran Sheriden paired with Mark McCabe to get second place in the 300-meter dash in 1:17.95, just behind Skaneateles (1:17.51), with Austin Catalano and Nick Krugar third in the triple jump, going 68’10” between them.
Ethan Craig and Garrett Vannatta made it to third place in the boys mile relay in 9:57.12, while Denis Keegan and Sam Bull were fifth (4:39.42) in the 800-meter run. Andrew Vanslyke and Ben Timmons got to fifth place in the 1,000-meter run in 6:00.76 as George Kresovich and Tim Demjaneko were sixth in the 500-meter run.
continued — Moving to the girls meet, the Bees were victorious in the 55 hurdles, where Haleigh Jaquint and Adrianna Straughter had a combined time of 19.66 seconds to edge runner-up Skaneateles (19.71 seconds) for that top spot.
Also, Anna Miller (second) and Brina Edmonds (fourth) paired up to win the shot put, heaving it 56’2″ between them to leave West Genesee (54’5″) and the field behind them. Jaquint took second in the individual triple jump, leaping 33’11” and teaming with Sydney Molinet for third place (58’9″) overall.
Leah Carpenter, paired with Sophie Simone, were third in the 3,000-meter run in 23:54.49. Katie Weaver and Katherine Siddall were fourth (16.48 seconds) in the 55 sprint as Katie Wicks and Tina Bartelli took fourth place in the 500 in 2:56.40.
Elizabeth Fawwaz and Mia Bolton were fourth in the mile in 12:10.18, while Patricia Conlan and Madison Dickter were fifth in the 800, finishing in a combined 5:29.36.
Hailey Couchman got fourth-place points by herself in the high jump, clearing 4’8″, while Lauren Place topped 6 feet in the pole vault. Dickter and Sarah Rodman took fifth place in the 1,000 in 7:01.83 before Anna Demer and Hannah Klaben finished fifth (1:34.09) in the 300 sprint.
