The village of North Syracuse is looking to the town of Cicero for assistance in its code enforcement department. Since North Syracuse’s former code enforcement officer Pam DiCarlo took a job with the town of Clay, the village and Cicero have entered into an intermunicipal agreement in which Cicero will provide code enforcement services until North Syracuse can find a replacement for DiCarlo.
The Cicero Town Board voted May 11 to approve the three-month intermunicipal agreement.
“We’re extremely busy, but we’re happy to help our neighbors for a three-month period,” Director of Code Enforcement Richard Hooper said.
Under the agreement, North Syracuse will pay Cicero $2,800 per month, plus $75 per new home inspection and $125 per new commercial construction inspection.
“That will give us enough time to canvas the list and find a replacement,” Mayor Gary Butterfield said at the May 12 village board of trustees meeting.
“If we can’t find someone we’re satisfied with, we could extend the agreement with Cicero for a year,” Butterfield said.
The board considered hiring a temporary, part-time code enforcement assistant to patrol the village for code violations and serve orders, but Trustee Paul Linnertz suggested the village wait and see if additional help would be necessary. The board agreed to wait and see.
