No relief was offered to the Baldwinsville cross country teams after a dual meet with mighty Fayetteville-Manlius and the successful staging of its own B’ville Invitational on Sept. 26.
The Bees’ next assignment was going to Longbranch Park last Wednesday to take on Liverpool, and the Warriors ended up prevailing on both sides, though B’ville did salvage a split of the three-way meet by sweeping Syracuse West.
It was closer in the girls meet, with B’ville falling to Liverpool 23-32 while topping Syracuse West 15-49. Justus Holden-Betts finished third in a time of 20:07, just behind the Warriors’ Morgan Chewning-Kulick, who was second in 20 minutes flat as her teammate, Juliana Basla, won in 19:05.
Elizabeth Fawwaz, in 20:33, slid into fourth place behind Holden-Betts, while Sarah Klein was sixth in 21:09. But two more Liverpool runners crossed the line to seal the home team’s sweep before B’ville’s Leah Carpenter got ninth place in 21:14 and Nadine Dickter (21:35) finished 10th.
Meanwhile, in the boys race, the Bees won, 20-43, over Syracuse West, but lot 15-49 to Liverpool, who had six of the top seven runners, including Ben Petrella, whose top time of 15:43 beat teammate Ty Brownlow (16:53) by more than a minute. Only Ryan DeLola, finishing eighth in 17:14, broke into the top 10 on B’ville’s side.
Ironically, B’ville and Liverpool were in the same race again on Saturday, during the McQuaid Invitational at Rochester’s Genesee Valley Park.
The boys Bees finished sixth in the seeded AAA (large school) race with 214 points as Liverpool edged East Aurora for the top spot, though both finished with 65 points. Delola finished 24th, in a time of 15:35.4, while Adam Davis took 39th place in 15:48.9.
Austin Bolton, in a time of 15:51.3, was three spots behind Davis as Cameron Morrissey was 50th in 16:00.3 and Andrew Olds was 59th in 16:13 flat. Denis Keegan, in 16:23 flat, and Evan Vannatta, in 16:23.5, were within a half-second of each other. Ethan Craig finished in 16:36.9, Andrew VanSlyke posted 16:42.8Ben Timmons finished in 16:56.8.
Meanwhile, the girls Bees were 17th in its AAA division race, with Holden-Betts making her way to 51st place in 18:49.8. Fawwaz was 75th, in 19:17.3, with Carpenter (20:21.2), Nadine Dickter (20:28.0). Mia Bolton (20:39.8), Makayla Spicer (20:53.9), Sophie Simone (21:16.8) and Kayleigh Sattler (23:02.7) further back.
