Jamesville-DeWitt school district officials have announced the appointment of Peter Reyes as the new principal of Jamesville Elementary school.
Superintendent Alice Kendrick made the announcement at the June 1 meeting of the board of education.
“Since relocating to CNY, he has over five years of experience as an administrator and brings a wealth of experience, knowledge and unbridled enthusiasm to his new leadership role,” said Kendrick.
Reyes is currently employed as the principal of Barry Elementary in the Cortland Enlarged City School District.
Reyes said he started his career in education working as a physical education teacher in a school in Albany. He then went on to become employed as the assistant principal and athletic director of the high school in the Duanesburg Central School District. After meeting his wife, who is a J-D graduate, Reyes said he became employed as the assistant principal of Wellwood Middle School in the Fayetteville-Manlius School District, where he stayed for three years.
Reyes said he believes his wide range of experience in rural, city and suburban schools will be a strength when transitioning into this new position.
“I was really honored to even be considered and am excited to receive the position,” said Reyes. “I hope to further the involvement at Jamesville-Elementary in terms of creating a community where students can learn and grow and be ready for middle school — because that’s what elementary school is about — preparing students to move on to bigger things.”
Reyes will begin his role as Jamesville Elementary principal starting July 1.
