When it performs its annual concert this coming weekend at Liverpool High School Auditorium, the Liverpool Community Chorus will welcome a handful of youthful vocalists to the stage.
“We’re doing ‘Sound of Music’ this year” said chorus director John Miller, “so we thought it would be appropriate to have a children’s chorus join us for the performance.”
So the Long Branch Elementary School Select Chorus, under the direction of Lisa Zippi, will harmonize delightfully on “Do-Re-Mi,” “The Lonely Goatherd” and “My Favorite Things,” among other tunes by composers Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II.
“Sound of Music” performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 13, and at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 14, at Liverpool High School Auditorium, on Wetzel Road in Clay. Tickets cost $10, or $8 for seniors and students; kids age 12 and younger get in free. For info, call John Miller at 453-5646.
Three decades of music
The Community Chorus will help the Liverpool Is the Place Committee celebrate its 30th anniversary of producing summer concerts at Johnson Park, at 7 p.m. on Monday, June 15. In case of rain, the anniversary will be noted at the concert at the park on Wednesday, June 17, featuring Dan Elliott & The Montereys.
The free concerts run every Monday and Wednesdays at 7 p.m. through Aug. 19; liverpoolistheplace.com; 457-3895.
Cheap steamers
My friend Tony Natale recommends the food at Frank’s Plank Road restaurant, and — get this! — on Mondays and Tuesday, Frank’s sells a dozen steamed clams for just $4.50.
“Where else can you get a dozen steamers for less than five dollars?” Tony asks. Frank’s is located at 8350 Brewerton Road in Cicero near the intersection at Route 31; 699-9119
Tony also recommends Frank’s cracker-crumb haddock. “It literally melts in your mouth,” he said.
Sharkey’s rocks Wednesday and Thursday
Are you ready to rock?
Sharkey’s Bar & Grill continues its 2015 Sharkapalooza season at 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 17, with Dirt Road Ruckus rocking hard in the parking lot, 7240 Oswego Road. Ten more concerts, which run rain or shine, are scheduled through Aug. 26. Sharkey’s also stages show at 6 p.m. on Thursdays, including The Bomb on June 18 and Hard Promises on June 25; sharkeysbarandgrill.com; 214-4116.
Power lunches
Assemblyman Bill Magnarelli is becoming a weekend regular at the GardenView Diner. He often shows up for lunch decked out in a simple hoodie and shorts. “I‘ll be working on the lawn this afternoon,” he mentioned last month.
Meanwhile, his Democratic colleague, Assemblyman Al Stirpe, and several members of his office staff volunteered to sell popcorn and soda at the June 3 concert at Johnson Park featuring Mark Doyle and the Maniacs with special guest Joe Whiting. Man, it was a rush to hear Doyle & Whiting reprise “Whiskey Woman” from their Jukin’ Bone days!
