All of the regular-season matches were now in the books, with the Liverpool and Cicero-North Syracuse girls golf teams set to travel to Oneida’s Kanon Valley Country Club for Tuesday’s Section III championship tournament.
Before that, though, the Warriors and Northstars tried to add to their respective win totals, including a match against each other on Thursday afternoon at Rogues Roost that closed the regular season.
And just like their first meeting on May 1, C-NS prevailed, by a 190-204 margin, with the Northstars’ Sydney Walker shooting a 44 to beat out the Warriors’ Alessa Main (45) for top individual honors.
Though Liverpool’s Nea Mikela shot a 48, two C-NS golfers, Jessica Doran and Nessa McKie, also had 48 to put their side in front, and Abby Ainsworth sealed the win with a 50, ahead of the Warriors’ tandem of Sam Wolfe (53) and Megan Dinnen (58).
Just before that, Liverpool went right up against Fayetteville-Manlius, second place in the CNY Counties League, and lost, 194-227, to the Hornets at Green Lakes.
Main shot a 48, tying F-M’s Audrey Putelo for second place among individuals, only behind Putelo’s teammate, Madison Kingsley, who shot a 42. Two other Hornets – Maggie Bonomo (51) and Caroline Gaglione (53) – finished in front of Mikela, who put up a 58 for the Warriors. Wolfe shot a 60 and Dineen added a 61.
C-NS had a close match with Baldwinsville last Tuesday at Rogues Roost and lost, 204-206, to the Bees. Walker’s 47 for the Northstars only trailed the Bees’ Katie Walsh, who had a 51.
Doran added a 50 and McKie had a 51 as a string of three B’ville players – Jordyn Fofi (51), Emma Brushingham and Lindsey Slazik (56 each) –got ahead of C-NS’s Molly Shaughnessy, who had a 58.
