Back home after an impressive win over Fairport on April 25, the Jamesville-DeWitt boys lacrosse team resumed its rampage against any local foes that were in the way.
And that included East Syracuse Minoa, whom the state Class B no. 4-ranked Red Rams beat 17-7 on April 14. The rematch last Saturday afternoon proved more lopsided, J-D prevailing by a 19-5 margin over the Spartans.
ESM didn’t make it that easy in the first half, producing enough goals and slowing the pace down to only trail 7-4 at the break. All of that changed, though, once play resumed as J-D dominated the face-offs, attacked at will and ended the game with a 12-1 blitz.
Grayson Burns had a season-high 10 points, from five goals and five assists. Ryan Archer and Anthony Cacchione benefited from those passes, each of them scoring four times, with Griffin Cook adding three goals and one assist. Andrew Barkley and Austin Dieroff had the other goals and Charlie Digristina contributed a pair of assists.
On the Spartans’ side, only Kollin Diedrickson had multiple goals, finding the net three times. Jeremy Perry and Derrek Madonna had the other goals as Joe Rosaschi and Luke Rosaschi each got single assists.
J-D made up a postponed April 13 game against Homer last Monday night and proved quite impressive, downing the Trojans 13-5.
Each half started with J-D seizing control, as it raced to a 4-1 lead on Homer in the first quarter. Then, with the margin still at three (6-3) at halftime, the Rams proceeded to blank the Trojans during a decisive 4-0 third-quarter push.
Cook scored three times and added three goals. Archer also had a three-goal hat trick, with Burns and Anthony DiGiovanni getting two goals apiece. Digristina and Ben Wipper had the other goals as Wipper, DiGiovanni, Matt Murad and Casey Platenik earned single assists.
Much more production followed in Thursday’s 24-6 romp over Chittenango, the Red Rams easing up after a first half where it found the net 18 times, including 11 goals in the second quarter alone.
Archer, with five goals and one assist, and Cook and Cacchione, each with four goals and two assists, led the way, while Burns dished out a career-best eight assists. Murad, Wipper and Alex Dieroff had two goals apiece as Digristina had a goal and three assists. DiGiovanni, Zach Duby, Ryan Durkin and Carson LaRussa earned single goals.
ESM, entering the week at 4-6, took a further dip in last Monday’s game against Marcellus, unable to keep up in a 13-8 defeat to the Mustangs.
For each of the first three periods, Marcellus outscored the Spartans, eventually building a 11-5 lead, largely due to the work of Ross Filtch and Matt Hutchings, who each scored four goals as Hutching added three assists.
No one on ESM’s side got close to that mark, as Perry and Luke Rosaschi each led the way with two goals and one assist. Nate Sturick, Jeff Toole, Tyler Ott and Andrew Messinger had one goal apiece, with Diedrickson, Madonna and Joe Rosaschi earning assists.
Turning around on Thursday night, ESM dismissed Central Square 19-7, for though the Redhawks kept it close for a half, the Spartans used an 8-2 third-quarter blitz to settle matters.
Perry stepped up with five goals and two assists. Ott scored three times and Madonna had two goals and two assists, with Sturick, Luke Rosaschi and Joe Rosaschi each getting two goals and one assist. Diedrickson, Messinger and Nate Jacobs had one goal apiece.
