Two of the three Cazenovia Board of Education members whose seats are up for election on May 19 confirmed Monday night that they will not seek reelection.
Current board President Pat Vogl, a 12-year member, and Karin Marris, a 12-year member, both said they have decided not to run again simply because they have been on the board long enough and are eager to give someone else a chance to serve.
“It’s been 12 years now, and this has been my plan all along,” Vogl said. “I think it’s time to get someone new, some new blood on the board. It’s been an honor to serve.”
Board member and current Vice President Cindy Bell Tobey is also up for reelection in May, but said she has not yet decided whether to run again, she said. Tobey has been on the board for seven years.
The BOE is a seven-member board with each member serving a three-year term. Board elections are held on an at-large basis. The three candidates who receive the highest number of votes will be elected to new terms on the board beginning July 1, 2015, and ending June 30, 2018.
BOE members receive no salary.
In order to run for election to the school board, a person must pick up a candidate petition at the district office at 31 Emory Ave. Candidates must receive at least 25 signatures of district residents in order to be included on the ballot.
Ballots must be returned to the district office by 4 p.m. Friday, April 24.
District Clerk Patricia Marzeski said only one person has picked up a candidate petition so far.
