Thanks to all the local matches and out-of-town tournaments it has put itself through, the Baldwinsville girls volleyball team is quite ready for the post-season examination to get underway.

Of course, the Bees still had regular-season matters to handle, starting last Tuesday with a home match against Cicero-North Syracuse that quickly turned into another three-set sweep.

As it put away the Northstars 25-6, 25-9, 25-17, B’ville saw Meghann Smith put up 25 assists, while Caryn Salce worked on the defensive side, earning nine digs.

Up front, Amanda May led the way with eight kills and two blocks. Madison Whitney and Lexi Lagoy both gained five kills, with Whitney adding two aces and Lagoy two blocks. Rebecca Lawrence added four kills as Meghan Andre managed five aces and Salce got three aces.

Two nights later, B’ville turned back Auburn in a steady 25-10, 25-11, 25-13 effort. Smith, who had 25 assists, also produced a team-best four aces as Shayna Webber stepped up for nine kills. Rachel Aiello had five kills as Melissa Voyer produced four kills. Caryn Salce added three aces as May and Whitney gained three kills apiece.

In boys volleyball action, B’ville ended a busy week with a memorable match against C-NS, though it had the same ending as the girls side, the Bees finishing on top.

Dropping the first set 25-20, B’ville won each of the next two sets by scores of 25-15 and 25-18, only to have the Northstars win the fourth set 25-17. Staying calm, the Bees got the critical points down the stretch and won the final set 25-22 to take the match.

Up front, Corey Toscano had 12 kills and seven digs. Delsean Griffith and Mike Bernet both picked up 10 kills and two digs, while Dalton Mahan managed six kills and three blocks. Jonathan Dunn had four kills as Pat Dubiel earned 39 assists and three kills, with Tyler Weber gaining 19 digs.

This ended a stretch that started last Wednesday night, where B’ville had no trouble, needing just three sets to execute a 25-20, 25-20, 25-18 sweep over Horseheads.

Dubiel didn’t just settle for his 23 assists. He also helped on the front line, recording six kills, the same total as Mahan, Dunn and Toscano led with seven kills apiece. Bernet added five kills as Griffith got four kills and two assists. Weber paced the Bees’ defensive effort, gaining 10 digs.

A tougher match followed on Friday, at Jamesville-DeWitt, where the Bees (9-3) dropped a long second set 28-26 after taking the opener 25-16. But gradually B’ville would take charge, winning the third set 25-19 and dominating the fourth set 25-12 to close it out.

Mahan had 10 kills and two blocks, while Griffith and Toscano each gained nine kills. Bernet added four kills and Charles McAllister managed four digs as Dubiel put together 30 assists, five kills and two aces. The boys Bees finish the regular season this week against Living Word Academy and the combined Syracuse city squad.

In a 25-16, 25-11, 25-12 defeat to Rochester McQuaid on Saturday, Dubiel had eight assists and Mike Shorney added four assists, with Bernet getting four kills. Toscano and Mahan each finished with three kills.
