Once again, the Baldwinsville baseball team settled into a steady winning groove, getting contributions in every phase of the game along the way.
The Bees’ second Monday meeting with Liverpool in as many weeks went like the first as B’ville, cranking up its hitting attack, got away in the late going to beat the Warriors 15-5.
Never trailing, the Bees got to Liverpool pitcher Jackson Hobble for four runs in the top of the first inning. From there, B’ville exchanged runs until the sixth, when it turned a tight 8-5 contest into a romp with seven runs in that frame.
Gabe Levanti, moved to the top of the order, responded with a home run and four RBIs. Zach Leo and Pat Merryweather each drove in two runs, while Jimmy Schmidt and Nick Harper earned one RBI apiece. Josh Demoski had two hits and three runs scored, with Merryweather getting a team-best three hits and Schmidt also managing a pair of hits.
Colin Conklin pitched 3 2/3 innings before Brett DeLola took over in relief. Combined, DeLola and Casey McAllister gave up just five hits and one run, with DeLola recording four strikeouts.
B’ville was even more impressive on Wednesday afternoon, traveling to Fayetteville-Manlius and putting away the Hornets in a 15-0 shutout where Merryweather did a bit of everything.
Taking his turn in the rotation, Merryweather shut down F-M’s bats, only surrendering one walk and four hits, three of them to F-M’s Peter Battan, and gaining 13 strikeouts.
Then, at the plate, Merryweather tore up the Hornets with a home run and single on his way to five RBIs, keying the Bees’ getaway as it scored four runs in the third inning and eight runs in the fifth to settle matters.
Josh Savacool scored three runs, got two hits and earned a pair of RBIs, while Demoski, Schmidt, Levanti and Gage Blasi each had one RBI and Jake Norton scored twice.
When the Bees hosted Utica Proctor on Friday afternoon, the shutout streak continued as Casey McAllister went most of the way to beat the Raiders 7-0.
Going six innings, McAllister limited Proctor to three hits, walking one batter and striking out four, before DeLola worked the final inning in relief.
B’ville got to Proctor pitcher John Napoli for two runs in the first inning and four runs in the bottom of the third. Levanti cracked his second home run of the week, a solo shot, as Leo doubled and drove in two runs. Conklin and Schmidt earned one RBI apiece as Savacool scored twice.
With an 11-2 mark and two weeks left in the regular season, B’ville visited Auburn Monday and Oswego on Friday, with a home game against Syracuse West in between.
