Skaneateles native Keith Buehler, a junior playing ice hockey at Wesleyan College in Middletown, Conn., has been named the New England Small College Athletic Conference Player of the Year for his work in the 2012-13 season.

Buehler, in 25 games this winter, scored at least one point in 20 of them as the Cardinals went 10-11-4, dropping a first-round NESCAC conference playoff game to Trinity despite Buehler’s goal and two assists. Overall, he had 20 goals and 20 assists for a total of 40 points, leading the NESCAC by seven over his nearest challenger, Wesleyan teammate Nick Craven.

This included Buehler landing points in the season’s first 11 games and three different hat tricks (three goals) in games against conference foes Middlebury, Bowdoin and Hamilton. Against Bowdoin, he had six points (three goals and three assists), including the overtime game-winner in a 6-5 victory.

For his three-year career at Wesleyan, Buehler has picked up 41 goals and 45 assists, adding up to 86 points. And Buehler is one of 20 finalists for the Joe Concannon Award, given by the New England Hockey Writers Association to the best American-born player in New England.

After playing for the Skaneateles Lakers, Buehler attended prep school at Proctor Academy, in New Hampshire, from which he moved to Wesleyan.
