Another week, and another championship earned by the Cazenovia girls indoor track and field team.
With the Mohawk Valley ITA Division I crown already secure, the Lakers went to Onondaga Community College’s SRC Arena and easily pushed past a larger field in Thursday night’s Onondaga High School League Liberty/Patriot division meet.
Two Laker sides went to the top, but Cazenovia, with 131 points, far outdistanced Skaneateles, who settled for second place with 73 points. Westhill/Bishop Ludden (52 points) was third.
Ashley Winn picked up 30 of those points by claiming three events. In the 55-meter dash, Winn posted the fastest time of the evening – 7.42 seconds – and prevailed over teammate Clare Costello, who was second in 7.69 seconds.
Winn and Costello repeated that 1-2 feat in the 300-meter dash, where Winn again had the quickest time of the entire event in 41.75 seconds, pushed by Costello, who got 42.79 seconds. Then, in the 4×200 relay, Jessie Matt and Emily Willard joined Winn and Costello as, in 1:50.86, the Lakers beat Skaenateles (1:56.87) by more than six seconds.
Liz Pittman put together a series of high finishes, including the pole vault, where she was second, clearing 8 feet 6 inches, though with more misses than Megan Molnar (Skaneateles), who earned the victory.
In the triple jump, Pittman also was second, going 33’7″ as Ashley Kent (32’11 3/4″) claimed third place. They reversed spots in the long jump, with Kent second (15’6 1/2″) and Pittman third (15’4″) as, in the 55-meter hurdles, Kent earned third place in 9.59 seconds.
Samantha Gates rose to second place in the 600-meter run in 1:47.52, just behind J-E’s Brianna Byrnes (1:45.25). Jeanette Cudney made her way to third place in the 3,000-meter run in 10:56.94 and also was third (5:06.95) in the 1,500-meter run.
Willard and Gates teamed with Evelyn Wells and Kelsey Henderson as Cazenovia, in the 4×400 relay, was second (4:31.88) to Jordan-Elbridge, who won in 4:28.67. Wolsey, Maureen Milmoe, Grace Milmoe and Colleen Stalder pushed the Lakers to second in the 4×800 relay (10:40.13), with Westhill/Ludden prevailing in 10:16.45.
Grace Milmoe was sixth in the 1,000-meter run (3:20.22), with Hannah Dain going to the shot put and earning fourth place with a best toss of 27’7 1/2″.
