Officials approved the $4,047,370 budget for the village of Baldwinsville on Thursday, Jan. 17.

Representing a $44,288 increase over last year’s budget, the budget reflects an increased tax rate ($7.23 per $1,000 in assessed value, an increase of 14 cents above the 2012-13 tax rate of $7.09) for both Lysander and Van Buren taxpayers residing within the village. This means the owner of a home assessed at $100,000 will pay $723 in village property taxes not including any special district costs.

This is the first year the village will receive no sales tax monies from the county; last year the village budgeted to receive $78,879 from sales tax. In addition, officials have budgeted for a $55,094 increase in police salaries in the event a contract for the current period is ratified during the 2013-14 budget year. (Contracts are negotiated every two years; the last contract negotiated was for the 2009-2011 time period).

According to Village Treasurer Anna Custer, the village’s fund balance will help cover the difference from these items. There is also a $64,179 proposed increase in the tax levy (amount to be raised through property taxes): $2,244,836 compared to last year’s $2,180,657.
