For Cicero-North Syracuse’s boys volleyball team,the week started with a one-sided effort against the combined Syracuse city squad, resulting in a 25-5, 25-8, 25-11 sweep.
Justin Collins picked up 12 assists and four kills. Jordan Schneible also had four kills, while Josh Rodriguez managed three kills and Robert Palucci added three assists, plus four digs. Devin Smith also managed four digs.
The Northstars were just as impressive two nights later, when it came back home and put together a 25-22, 25-16, 25-19 sweep of Central Square.
Up front, Andrew Bocyck stepped up, earning 10 kills and three blocks. Rodriguez added seven kills, while Morgan Austen had five kills, four aces and two blocks. Nate Tyrrell managed four kills and three blocks. Collins fed all of them with his 22 assists.
Liverpool’s match with Baldwinsville got pushed back from Tuesday to Thursday night, and the wait was nearly worth it for the Warriors, who made a stirring comeback before taking a five-set defeat to the Bees.
Each of the first sets was a B’ville rout, by margins of 25-10 and 25-11. And the Warriors were on the brink of getting swept when it pulled out the third set 26-24.
Amazingly, the same thing happened in the fourth set, Liverpool staying alive and prevailing 27-25 to set up a final set. But the Warriors ran out of magic at the end, B’ville prevailing 25-16 in the fifth.
Still, Dalton Horton posted 22 assists, three blocks and two digs, his passes going to Joe Kenney, who had 10 kills, and Shawn Mosley, who had six kills to go with seven digs. Anthony Calabrese piled up 18 digs and Brendan Corp added 16 digs, with James Foley adding seven blocks. For B’ville, Shawn Calnan and Grady Schmidt each had 15 kills in front of Chris Drain, who managed 36 assists.
It didn’t go as long on Friday night, when Liverpool lost to defending Class AA champion Oswego 25-8, 25-13, 25-22. Horton picked up 10 assists, with Kenney adding four kills and four aces. Mosley also had four kills. Josh Carney (23 assists) and Dylan Lavner (13 kills) led Oswego along.
