Going to 3-0 on the season, the Fayetteville-Manlius track and field teams beat two city opponents in a three-day span.
The Hornets had no trouble with Corcoran last Tuesday afternoon, winning 110-30 in the girls meet and topping the Cougars 91-45 in the boys meet.
Many different Hornets took the spotlight in the girls event, starting in the 4×800 relay, where Hannah Smith, Alana Pearl, Olivia Ryan and Annika Avery finished in a time of 10:22.1.
Smith, on her own, needed 2:20.3 to win the 800-meter run, while Pearl earned first place in the 3,000-meter run in 10:11.3. Later in the meet, Smith and Ryan helped Heather Martin and Katie Brislin as F-M covered the 4×400 relay in 4:12.9.
Martin needed 1:00.7 to prevail in the 400-meter dash as Michelle Duffy emerged to win the 1,500-meter run in 4:51.0. Caitlin Ferro followed her victory in the 100-meter hurdles (18.9 seconds) by clearing 6 feet in the pole vault, tying teammate Savannah Pidkaminy for top honors.
Elsewhere, Natalie Zazzara claimed the 100-meter dash in 13.6 seconds. Christabel Ezidiegwu won twice, claiming both the discus and triple jump, while Sarah Olick-Sutphen earned the top spot in the long jump.
In the boys meet, Austin Perez had a clean sweep of the sprints, matching Corcoran’s Johnnie Robinson in the 100 (each with 11.2 seconds) but winning the 200 (22.9 seconds) and edging teammate Charlie Beeler, 51.3 seconds to 51.4, in the 400. As if that wasn’t enough, Perez and Beeler joined Langston Lightcap and Aaron Blitz as they won the 4×400 in 3:36.8.
Nick Ryan had his own sweep of the distance events as he ran the mile in 4:20.7 and also claimed the 800 in 2:02.2 before taking the 3,200-meter run in 9:23.20. Ryan, Lightcap, Ben Thomas and Bryce Millar and Langston Lightcap won the 4×800 in 9:00.6.
F-M also excelled in field events, where Nate Kadah edged Corcoran star Charles Stokes by two inches, 106’7” to 106’5”, in the discus to set the tone.
Sean Bright, with a long jump of 18’ 6 ½”, beat the Cougars’ Devlen Williams by half an inch as David Riccione won the shot put (39’8 ½”). Jules Wellner cleared 9 feet in the pole vault and Zhengyue Zhu went 39’ 10 ½” in the triple jump.
Two days later, both F-M teams met Nottingham – and both won again, a 107-25 victory on the boys side and a 94-38 decision on the girls side.
Ryan won twice in this meet, improving his mile time to 4:17.2 and really excelling in the 800, his 1:55.6 the best in Section III this spring. Millar took the 3,200 in 9:39.4 as Ryan, Beeler, Lightcap and Blitz needed 3:36.7 to cover the 4×400. Kyle Barber, Mike Malone, Riley Hughes and Andrew Berger won the 4×800 in 9:04.60.
Perez went 11.4 seconds in the boys 100, with Beeler taking both the 400 sprint (51.8 seconds) and 400 hurdles (1:01.3). Riccione was first in the shot put (37’ 5 ½”) as Nate Kadah flung the discus 98’ 11 ½”. Konrad Niemiec had a top triple jump of 39’ 9 ½” as Kyle Harbour went through the 110 high hurdles in 17.6 seconds.
In the girls meet, Martin ran the 400 in 1:01 flat and also won the long jump with a top leap of 15’ 1”. Smith took the 800 (2:18.9), Pearl won the 1,500 (4:53.2) and Duffy won the 3,000 in 10:26.3.
