Staying unbeaten in 2007, the Fayetteville-Manlius girls golf team picked off a pair of elite foes, on ground both familiar and strange.
Just two days after the automobile accident that took the lives of two F-M seniors, the Hornets focused on golf again — and got a big 173-184 victory over West Genesee.
On the Wildcats’ home course at Westvale, Jillian Fraccola shot a 38 and Ali Wakefield (in her first-ever round at Westvale) added a 40 for the low pair of individual rounds.
Alex Seabury stayed consistent, shooting a 45, while Lindsey Simmons earned a 50 and Sarah Peck shot a 54.
A day later, in a three-way match at Butternut Creek, F-M shot 144 to beat Oswego, who had 152, and Rome Free Academy (212). That 144 total missed the team record by just two shots.
Fraccola shot a 33, tying Oswego’s Corrin Conroy for the low individual round. Wakefield was right behind, with a 35, as Seabury gained a 36 and Peck stepped up with a 40. Simmons (43) and Sarah Simons (45) also played well.
Before all this, the Hornets moved to 4-0 by knocking off Whitesboro 192-226 at the Cavalry Club.
Fraccola, with a 41, had the low round by four shots in heavy winds, as Seabury added a 46. Wakefield (52) and Simmons (53) both had solid rounds, too, given the tough conditions.
F-M made it 7-0 on Monday at Northern Pines, beating Cicero-North Syracuse 156-194.
Even though the Northstars’ Beth Godneck had the low individual round of 34, the Hornets’ depth won out. Fraccola had a 36, while Simmons shot a 38 and Seabury added a 39.
