SYRACUSE – Another Wednesday and Thursday brought another pair of indoor track and field meets at SRC Arena, in this case the Oscar B. Jensen Memorial Relays.
As part of the Thursday session, West Genesee, Westhill and Skaneateles each made an impact, with the girls Warriors and boys Wildcats each finishing third overall and WG’s boys contributing a fourth-place finish.
Skaneateles had Will Feeney again stand out in throwing events, claiming the shot put with a heave of 45 feet 6 inches and then, in the weight throw, sending it 58’2” as Mara Stanton won the girls weight throw with a heave of 39’11”.
The Lakers also had Ryan McCrone finish second in the pole vault, setting a new personal mark by topping 9’6”. Tristan Boucher was fourth in the boys 1,600-meter run in 4:53.07.
West Genesee’s highlight was a 1-2-3 sweep of the girls 1,000-meter run, Claire Griffin winning in 3:09.77, just ahead of Peyton Long’s 3:10.38 as Andrea Conklin was third in 3:14.49.
Molly Doran ran the 55-meter dash in 7.74 seconds to finish second and also was runner-up in the 300-meter dash in 45.13, while WG also was fourth in the 4×200 relay, with Rebecca Dickey fifth in the 1,500-meter run.
On the boys side, WG stood out in relays, starting with Dylan Frost, Anthony Edgar, Will Fettig and Rhison Williams going 1:34.55 to win the 4×200 relay by more than four seconds over PSLA-Fowler’s 1:38.95. Then Williams, Edgar, Michael Gomes and Zach Hann paired up to win the 4×400 in 3:38.36, nearly 10 seconds faster than anyone else.
Frost nearly won the 55 sprint, too, his 6.72 seconds just behind the 6.69 from Watertown’s Camiren Collins, with Fettig fifth in the 300. Gomes earned second place in the 1,000 in 2:39.21 as Jordan-Elbridge had Alex Kunz fourth in 2:46.86. In the triple jump, the Wildcats’ Hayden Rothenberg was third, going 39’4 1/4”.
Westhill’s boys had Alex Dacko finish fourth in the 600 as Josh Dabbiero added a fifth in the 55 hurdles. J-E’s Ayden Campion had a sixth-place finish in the boys pole vault as Teagan Disinger was fifth in the girls long jump.
Isabel Leonardo, in 1:47.54, took second in the girls 600-meter run, beating out WG’s Zoe Maupin (1:49.26), who was third. Mallie Alt cleared 8’6” for second place and Emma Murphy was third (8 feet) in the pole vault.
Alt also took third in the 55-meter hurdles in 9.88 seconds, with Stella Napolitano third and Avery Starowicz fourth in the 3,000-meter run. Dericka Trotman finished fourth in the high jump, whlie Jael Hills was fifth and Morgan Heise sixth in the shot put. Murphy took fourth and Leonardo fifth in the triple jump.
Before this, Marcellus was part of the first session Wednesday night and the boys Mustangs managed to tie East Syracuse Minoa for third with 57 points, behind only Cazenovia and Cicero-North Syracuse.
Cameron Sadler was victorious in the weight throw, setting a personal best with 47’11 1/2” as no one else topped 45 feet. Sadler also was second in the shot put with 42’1”.
Paul Swenson, Xander Szalach, Charles Donahue and Andrew McCaffrey were second in the 4×200 in 1:38 flat to C-NS’s 1:36.04, with the Mustangs third in the 4×400 in 3:55.70. Szalach was fifth in the 600 (1:33.93, edging Liam Eldridge’s (1:33.97) for sixth.
McCaffrey, toppnig 10’6” in the pole vault, gained third place as Paul Swenson had a fourth-place triple jump of 40’1 1/2”. Eldridge finished sixth in the 1,600, with Owen Alexander seventh in the 55 hurdles and Ethan Checksfield seventh in the 1,000 ahead of Jamison Palen in ninth place. Robbie Hakes was 10th in the 3,200.
Solvay’s best finish came from Giovanni Cilani, who topped 5’6” for the first time in the high jump to gain third place as Dylan Mumford was fifth in the shot put with a throw of 38’7”.
Marcellus, on the girls side, had Corrine Aldrich, Sophia Bianchi, Madison Foy and Emmi Rossiter second in the 4×400 relay in a time of 4:31.82.
Bianchi was fifth (9.94 seconds) and Foy seventh in the 55 hurdles. Aldrich got sixth place in the 55 sprint and 600 in a personal-best 1:48.20. Also, the Mustangs were seventh in the 4×200 and Lorelei Reffler took ninth in the high jump as Tessy Huntley finished ninth in the weight throw. Gabrielle Willsey gave Solvay a fourth-place finish in the shot put, heaving it 26’11 1/2”.
