For much of April, the Fayetteville-Manlius track and field teams found itself in constant training, wondering if the weather would ever turn normal so that league meets could get started.

Contests against Nottingham, Oswego and Auburn were all postponed, as the Hornets had to wait for various snows to melt.

Ironically, when F-M’s season resumed last Wednesday against Fowler, it was done in a constant rain. Still, it didn’t keep the boys Hornets from a 120-12 romp, nor did it prevent the F-M girls from routing the Falcons 114-18.

Jamal Johnson won both boys sprints, taking the 100-meter dash (11.2 seconds) and 200-meter dash (23.2 seconds), while Scott Kleinklaus emerged to run the 400-meter dash in 53 seconds flat.

Tommy Gruenewald, bound for Stanford University next fall, ran 800 meters in 2:00.1 and allowed teammate Alex Hatz to pace with him in both the mile (4:40.1) and 3,200-meter run (9:58.9), as they hit the line at the same time.

As Arthur Skwarnicki won the 110-meter high hurdles (16.7 seconds), Eric Snavely worked to a winning time of 1:04.06 in the 400 hurdles.

F-M also took a trio of field events, as Brennan Schwab won the shot put (40 feet 8 inches), Colin Anderson threw the discus 123 feet 1 inch and Josh Allen flew 38 feet 1 1/2 inches in the triple jump.

Also, the Hornets swept the 4×100 (46.6 seconds), 4×400 (3:54.0) and 4×800 (9:15.0) relays as Gruenewald, Johnson, Allen, Hatz, Geoff King, Ben Kimple, Tony Brown, Louis Pascarella, Ryan LaVoy and Zach Powers all took part.

In the girls meet, the eagerness to compete again was equally prevalent, as F-M found a series of winning efforts.

Claire Luger prevailed twice, taking the 100-meter high hurdles in 18 seconds flat and going 13 feet 4 inches in the long jump. Torie Lee (400 meters, 1:03.03) and Jessica Marini (400 hurdles, 1:11.4) also won on the oval.

Hilary Hooley won the 3,000-meter run in 11:15.9 and was a close second to Courtney Chapman (5:05.5) in the 1,500, with Mackenzie Carter running 800 meters in 2:30.3.

In field events, Cami Alvarez took first in the triple jump (29 feet 1 1/2 inches) as Lindsey Dutell cleared 4 feet 4 inches in the high jump, Megan Robinson won the discus (71 feet 8 inches) and Sarah Burn threw the shot put 26 feet 10 inches.

Courtney Chapman joined Alex Chapman, Erica Lafetta and Liz Daggett in taking the 4×800 relay (10:44.0) as Marini, Lindsey Dutell, Jordan Monteleone and Nicole Alibrandi combined to win the 4×400 relay in 4:27.0.
