ONONDAGA COUNTY – As it stayed near the top of the SCAC Metro division standings, the Cicero-North Syracuse Blue girls golf team was putting together another strong regular season.
But things got even better last Friday afternoon at Northern Pines, when the Northstars rose up and knocked off previously unbeaten Fayetteville-Manlius Green 177-182.
These teams had met April 28 at Green Lakes and the Hornets won 190-204. Back home, C-NS Blue turned it around led by Jessica Ricciardi’s 38 for nine holes.
Both Ricciardi and Isabella Borte, who shot 42, beat the low F-M Green round of 43 from Erin Graves. Then Chloe Tice had a 46 to tie Gabby Dardis for fifth behind Georgia Perry (44), and Mackenzie Wessels clinched it by shooting 51.
This came on the heels of C-NS Blue beating Jamesville-DeWitt 152-162 at Butternut Creek, a match where Ricciardi shot 35 to match the Red Rams’ Abby Newman. Borte added a 37 and Tice a 38 Gabriella DiOrio clinched it with a 42.
So ended a week where C-NS Blue also swept its rivals from Liverpool, the Northstars prevailing 150-176 when they went head-to-head last Wednesday afternoon at Hickory Hill.
Ricciardi shot a season-best 32, while Borte shot 38 and DiOrio was third with a 41. Jewelyana Daniels had a 42 to lead the Warriors, beating out the 43 from the Northstars’ Andrea Wheaton. Maddie Teska and Maddie Turck each shot 43 for Liverpool as Cloe Dailey contributed a 48.
A day later, C-NS Green took its turn against Liverpool, but it was the Warriors finishing on top as Ella Foriero shot 41 and Daniels again shot 42. Emma Fenwick added a 46 and Teska a 50 as Lindsey Kubala got a 44 to lead the Northstars, Mya Ashkar adding a 47 and Haley Swenton a 49.
C-NS Blue beat C-NS Green 187-246 last Monday at Northern Pines. Ricciardi put up a 42 to lead all individuals.
Borte was second with a 46 as Wheaton finished with a 50. To pace C-NS Green, Kubala shot a 56, while Jillian Bambino had a 50. DiOrio and Ashkar both finished with rounds of 64.
Hosting F-M Green a day later, C-NS Green took a 182-229 defeat to the first-place Hornets. Kubala did shoot 46 to tie for second, behind only the 42 from Dardis, while Bambino had a 55 ahead of Ashkar’s 61 and DiOrio’s 62.
F-M White then beat C-NS Green 209-229 on Wednesday afternoon at Green Lakes. Kubala tied for low round with the Hornets’ Lucia Melfi, each posting 48, while Bambino was fourth with a 54. Six F-M White golfers shot 60 or lower ahead of Ashkar’s 62 and DiOrio, who posted 65.
Liverpool met West Genesee last Monday at Hickory Hill and beat the Wildcats 191-200, with the Warriors sweeping each of the top five spots after Sophia Simiele’s 41 for WG.
Daniels shot 43 to pace Liverpool. Foriero had a 46, with Turck and Tesca each posting 51 and Fenwick’s 52 equaling that of the Wildcats’ Olivia Snyder. Dailey added a 55.
As C-NS Green faced Liverpool, C-NS Blue was defeating Jamesville-DeWitt 152-162. Ricciardi’s 35 was equaled by Abby Newman, but Borte, with a 37, and Chloe Tice, with a 38, got the Northstars in front and DiOrio added a 42.
Playing at Hickory Hill on Friday, Liverpool managed to defeat F-M White 172-18, led by a 39 from Turck that was three ahead of Melfi. Fenwick shot a 43 and Daniels added a 44.
