ONONDAGA COUNTY –
When the Westhill track and field teams hosted a multi-team meet with Tully on May 29, the hosts were far from quiet, even with big teams like Cicero-North Syracuse and Baldwinsville on hand.
In the girls meet, the Warriors’ Angie Mesa took the 100-meter dash in 12.88 seconds and added a 200-meter dash victory in 26.69 seconds and then won the long jump by going 16 feet 3 inches as Kate Bendall (15’4”) was third.
Ashley Bolesh, in 59.33 seconds, won the 400-meter dash as Jordan-Elbridge’s Coral Uhle was second in 1:01.98.
Moving to the triple jump, Bolesh won with a best attempt of 36’6 1/2”, with J-E’s Kyler Langhorn second by going 32’2 3/4”. Bolesh also ran 800 meters in 2:22.31 behind C-NS’s Hannah Boyle, who set a school record in a state-best 2:10.54.
Isabel Young went 18.80 seconds to beat the field in the 100 hurdles, also going 1:10.16 for second place in the 400 hurdles as Colleen Patrie was second in the shot put, tossing it 26’9 3/4”.
Evan Frost got a victory in the boys 200-meter dash in 23.73 seconds and finished third in the 100-meter dash. Drew O’Reilly was first in the 3,200-meter run in 10:46.78, edging the 10:50.26 from Justin Nowicki.
When Skaneateles hosted the girls OHSL Liberty division championships last Wednesday, J-E’s 85 points edged the host Lakers (83 points) for second place, though both were well behind Cazenovia’s winning total of 198 points.
J-E’s lone individual title came from Langhorn, who in the long jump went 14’8”. As for Skaneateles, Lily Colman earned a victory in the 800, her time of 2:31.8 beating out the 2:33.8 from Cazenovia’s Faith Wheeler.
The boys OHSL Liberty meet had Skaneateles gain 130.5 points, though again it was second to Cazenovia (182.33). Caleb Bender beat the field in the 3,200 in 10:55.6, with Matt Persampieri winning the 1,600 in 4:38.9.
Meanwhile, West Genesee finished its regular season with a sweep of last Wednesday’s league clash with Henninger.
During the boys Wildcats’ 100-37 victory, Dominick Burris ran the 100 sprint in 11.0 seconds. Aiden Walsh went 2:08.2 in the 800, with Peter McMahon tearing to a time of 4:34.6 in the 1,600 and Chris Moser winning the 400 sprint in 55.8 seconds.
Bryan Reichert beat the field in the 110 hurdles in 18.5 seconds, the Wildcats seeing Moser, Justin Byrne, Nick Persante and Bryce Bort run the 4×400 relay in 4:04.1 as McMahon, Moser, Jason Malinowski and Connor Moore won the 4×800 in a clocking of 9:17.1.
WG’s girls handled Henninger 91-44, with Sarah Fettig going 1:08.9 in the 400 sprint and Alana Eastman taking the 800 in 2:42 flat as she also helped Madison Frost, Grace McInerney and Lily Francisco take the 4×400 in 4:39.0.
Francisco also helped the Wildcats take the 4×100 in 55.4 seconds as Lauren Puchta went 5:14.3 in the 1,500 and Alexis Rydelek threw the shot put 27’6”. McInerney cleared 4’8” to win the high jump.
