The inaugural Festival of the Swans is approaching in Manlius, and a day filled with family-friendly activities to celebrate the community and culture of the village of Manlius is planned for Sept. 23.
The Greater Manlius Chamber of Commerce decided to organize this event along with numerous organizations, municipalities and businesses in Manlius to encourage residents to get out and see what the village has to offer.
“We have so many unique and fun establishments and events in the town and our function is to help promote them and encourage people to shop local and small,” said Patty Oot, a co-chair of the event. “Our intent was to take some of the already-planned events and incorporate them into one bigger event with something for everyone. The Festival of the Swans was a natural fit since we all love our beautiful swans!”
There are many events scheduled so far, including a business scavenger hunt where the prize will be gift cards to businesses in the village, a hike at Mill Run Park sponsored by Anytime Fitness and Kinney Drugs, the annual youth fishing derby at the pond near the village amphitheater, a tag sale at the senior center, a rummage sale and chicken BBQ at the United Methodist Church, food trucks at Lune Chocolat, an antique auction at the Manlius Historical Society, a dog beauty pageant sponsored by Compassionate Care Veterinary and Doggy Doody Duty, modified soccer games between Wellwood Middle School and Eagle Hill Middle School, a pub crawl in the evening and various discounts and promotions at village businesses.
Oot said the event planning has been going well and many people are excited for Sept. 23, but they are in need of volunteers for events throughout the day. They are also looking for street musicians and artists.
