Cazenovia — The Cazenovia Public Library is offering students and families a week of exciting activities during the upcoming Winter Break—Museum Academy, Building Palooza, Coloring for Adults, Animals in Winter and movies.
Museum Academy: Shadow Puppets — 1:30 to 3 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 16, Lorenzo State Historic Site.
In partnership with Lorenzo State Historic Site, children ages 7 to 12 are invited to join Jenna Wright-Martin for an afternoon of creative play at Lorenzo.
Shadow Puppets have a rich history of performance around the world from their beginnings in Asia and Indonesia to Victorian era parlor games. Children practiced the timeless art of storytelling by using handmade puppets and retelling their favorite tales.
During the Feb. 16 program, participants will explore and create their own shadow puppets and stage. Using poster board and craft supplies to create hinged stick puppet characters from favorite stories, shadow plays will then be presented to friends and family.
Children are asked to bring a shoe box with a lid to use as the base for their puppet show stage. All other materials will be provided.
Pre-registration and a $2 program fee are required. To reserve a spot, call Lorenzo at 655-3200.
Museum Academy is part of the Cazenovia Public Library’s Explorer Day programs that are offered during Cazenovia School recesses and sponsored by the Friends of Lorenzo.
Building Palooza — 10 to 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 17, in the community room.
Children of all ages and their families are invited to join in the fun of building something amazing with LEGOs and large wooden blocks. There will be toy people, cars, trucks, scarves and just about anything your imagination requires.
Movie: “Black Mass” — 2 and 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 17, in the community room.
John Connolly and James “Whitey” Bulger grew up together on the streets of South Boston. Decades later they met again, but by then, Connolly was a major figure in the FBI’s Boston office and Whitey had become godfather of the Irish Mob. A dirty deal to trade secrets and take down Boston’s Italian Mafia spiraled out of control and led to murders, drug deals, racketeering indictments, and, ultimately, to Bulger making the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted List.
continued — “Black Mass” is rated R and runs for 122 minutes. Free popcorn.
“Pokemon the Movie 1: Mewtwo Strikes Back” — 1:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 18, in the community room.
A group of scientists are offered funding into genetic research if they agree to try and clone Mew, the greatest Pokémon ever. The end result is the birth of Mewtwo, but he is bitter about his purpose in life and kills his masters. In order to become the greatest, Mewtwo challenges the world to battle him and his Pokémon. Ash and his friends are one of the few groups of trainers who pass the first test and prepare for battle, but they soon find out about further cloning and Mewtwo’s ultimate plan for the earth.
