For the month of February, the Community Library of DeWitt & Jamesville’s Art in the Library features local artist John Fitzsimmons. The paintings on display are from a series done between 2004 to 2007. They were widely exhibited previously, and many are now in private collections.
“Bringing them together again for this show brings back many memories and reminds me how much my life and work has changed, it also reminds me how art has a life of its own,” said Fitzsimmons.
“The meanings these paintings had when I painted them are not the meanings they have for me now and of course, the meanings that a viewer will give them.”
John Fitzsimmons was born in Central New York, attended SUNY New Paltz and the Art Academy of Cincinnati. He has exhibited widely across the United States and was selected for the prestigious Arts In Embassies program. He has work in many private and public collections. He currently lives and works in Syracuse; his studio is in the Delavan Studio Building.
See his art at the Community Library now through the end of February.
