College’s spring production features Shakespeare’s comedy set in the 1920s
Cazenovia College’s spring production of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” will be directed by Mickennon Wilson, who uses the original dialogue, yet sets the play in the 1920s. Members of the cast include Cazenovia College students and a faculty member along with individuals from the local community.
The classic comedy portrays the events surrounding the marriage of Theseus, the Duke of Athens, to Hippolyta. The plot includes the adventures of four young Athenian lovers including Hermia, Lysander, Helena and Demetrius. These four lovers find themselves adventuring through the woods and crossing paths in love’s mischief with the help of Puck, a trickster fairy.
Puck (Robin Goodfellow) is charged by Oberon, the fairy king, to find a creature for the fairy queen Titania, with whom she will fall in love after Oberon gives her a potion. Puck finds his muse in a band of actors who are in the woods rehearsing a play in hopes to perform for Theseus’ wedding day. All are transformed in one way or another.
