The first two weekends in August, the Baldwinsville Theater Guild will present a summer youth production of “Hairspray.” Directed by Alison Croucher and Brennan Carman and produced by Mary Tall, Rebecca Croucher and Catharine Ficarra, the musical features talented teen performers from all over Central New York.
Students from the area auditioned in February for the opportunity to be a part of this summer tradition in Baldwinsville. The cast was chosen from students in Baldwinsville and surrounding communities, such as Cato, Liverpool, Camillus, Syracuse, Fabius, Fayetteville and North Syracuse. This beloved, high-energy musical showcases the talents of these students as they experience life during the 1960’s, an exciting yet tumultuous time in our history.
A portion of the proceeds from “Hairspray” will be donated to the Brady Faith Center, a community outreach program whose mission is to meet the spiritual, educational and social needs of individuals and families in the Southwest Community of Syracuse.
Baldwinsville Theatre Guild is a not-for–profit agency which has been in existence since 1942, making it the oldest community theater organization in New York state. BTG has been able to offer scholarships to high school students who choose to continue their education in a music-related field.
Performances will take place at 7 p.m. Aug. 5, 6, 11, 12 and 13 and 3 p.m. Aug. 7 and 14 at The Presbyterian Church Education Center, 64 Oswego St., Baldwinsville. Order tickets at baldwinsvilletheatreguild.org or call 877-8465.
