BALDWINSVILLE — The Museum at the Shacksboro Schoolhouse is once again in the midst of hundreds of heritage peonies that are eager to display their beauty and fill the air with their fragrance. The museum will hold a sale of peony blossoms Saturday, June 5.
Museum gardeners will cut the stems to order as requested. A variety of perennials, including hosta, will be available for purchase as well. The sale will run from 9 a.m. to noon.
The museum building will be open to the public the weekend of the sale. When the facility closed last year, preparations were underway for a huge museum shop sale. Shop merchandise of all descriptions was put out in the exhibit area. COVID-19 hit before the opening of the sale.
The sale display has remained in place since last March and is now deeply discounted.
The museum sale will take place this weekend, June 4, 5 and 6. Friday and Saturday hours will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; on Sunday the sale will run from noon to 4 p.m. The shop sale will be repeated two weeks later — June 18, 19 and 20 — with the same hours. A return to full operations is anticipated within the next few months. Following the sale, the shop itself will be restocked and an exhibit will be installed in the exhibition area.
During the shutdown, new donations have been received, inquiries have been answered, curatorial and archival activity has continued and social media and the museum’s website have been used to keep Baldwinsville’s historic fabric vibrant and growing.
“A major component of a museum is to make its holdings available to the public. Both our volunteers and staff are eager to welcome visitors back. Their enthusiasm and curiosity are contagious and encouraging,” said Sue McManus, museum director.
Proceeds from both the plant sale and the shop sale benefit the Museum at the Shacksboro Schoolhouse, Greater Baldwinsville’s local history museum. Housed in a one-time country schoolhouse, the museum is located at 46 Canton St. in the village’s McHarrie Park. Admission is free. Inquiries may be made by phone at 315-638-2452 or email at [email protected].
