ONONDAGA COUNTY -Work picked up for the area’s high school boys and girls bowling teams now that the weather got out of the way.
Christian Brothers Academy faced Bishop Grimes last Monday at Strike-N-Spare Lanes, and the Brothers won both matches over the Cobras by equal 7-0 margins.
Eliana Occhino again starred for the CBA girls, nearly perfect in her 267 opening game while also recording games of 238 and 195 to produce one of the first 700 series for either boys or girls in Section III this winter.
Sophia Cierleck’s 190 game opened a 449 series as, to lead the Cobras, Lania Young had solid production, shooting games of 151, 144 and 112 in her 407 series.
On the boys side for CBA, Tom Dearnaley had his own star turn, his games of 206, 220 and 246 leading to a 672 series, one of the best of his career.
Chanu Yang had a 463 series and Gabriel Yang a 448 series for the Brothers as Grimes got games of 237 and 220 from Victor Rizzo though he slumped to a 164 in his 621 series.
From there, CBA moved on to sweep Altmar-Parish-Williamstown in two more 7-0 matches on Wednesday. Occhino had a 607 series with games of 216 and 204 as Dearnaley opened with a 204 and 199 in his 575 set.
At Green Lakes Bowl, Fayetteville-Manlius had its season opener last Monday against Liverpool and won a 7-0 decision on the girls side against the Warriors.
To lead a balanced Hornets lineup, Ashlynn Yonge shot a 479 series with a high game of 193. Lillian Squire was steady, a second-game 175 leading to a 464 series, while Andrea Aguilar-Miranda shot a 459 total, closing with a 179.
The 7-0 defeat on the boys side included a 493 series from Sean Bird and 471 series from Henry Keeney as Bird had a top game of 185 and Keeney a 181 high game. Austin Burch shot a 541 series to lead the Warriors.
East Syracuse Minoa swept both parts of last Tuesday’s match with Oswego. The boys Spartans’ 7-0 victory included Mike Saunders shooting a 641 series with games of 212, 221 and 211 as Zach Kassel closed with a 235 in his 627 set and Kyle Nissen produced a 201 game.
When the ESM girls won 7-0 over the Buccaneers, Jewelianna Hallock shot 165 and 175 during her 462 series, while Alana Tuberville contributed a three-game total of 433.
Later in the week, Grimes got swept 7-0 by both the Solvay boys and girls side, though Rizzo had a 442 series for the boys Cobras as the Bearcats got a 708 series and 267 high game from Henry Zimmerman.
F-M’s boys lost a tight 4-3 decision to Oswego on Thursday afternoon. Only in the 879-708 first game went in the Hornets’ favor as Bird opened with a 240, but Gabriel Williams had the better series of 605 thanks to games of 217 and 204. Zach Truell’s 565 series paced the Bucs.
