BALDWINSVILLE – It’s going to be quite difficult for the Baldwinsville girls bowling team to equal what it did during the 2022-23 season, which culminated in the program’s first-ever state Division I championship.
Still, the Bees are going to try, and it got underway last Friday at B’ville Sports Bowl when it faced Cicero-North Syracuse and put together a 7-0 victory over the Northstars.
Though twin sisters Jenna and Julia Speich are now at the University of Central Missouri and Maddy Hass also graduated, other Bees have returned, including Samantha Hass and Lizzy Hildreth.
It was Hass shooting a top series of 585 thanks to games of 179, 181 and 225, while Hildreth’s 194 closed out a 499 series. Ashlee LaVeck had a three-game total of 438 as Morgan Duetch had a 432 series and Layla Trendowski a three-game total of 413.
A far closer match took place in boys bowling between B’ville and C-NS, with high scores on both sides – but the Bees able to prevail 4-3, even though the total pinfall was 3,561-3,476 in the Northstars’ favor.
Zenon Gasiorowski led B’ville’s charge. Shooting 246, 232 and 233 Gasiorowski’s 711 series was just behind the 720 set from C-NS’s Nehemiah Bachmann that included a 10-strike 278.
Scott Ritcey’s steady 645 series included games of 215, 224 and 206. Wes Lell’s second-game 244 highlighted a 610 set as Jordan Sevigny opened with a 214 in his 550 series and Jason Ouellette closed with a 201 in his 516 set.
B’ville’s boys team also met West Genesee and got a 7-0 sweep led by Sevigny, who played all three games and, with 243, 224 and 189, finished with a 656 series.
Eleven different bowlers recorded at least one game. Ouellette rolled two games of 207 and 227, while Gasiorowski had a 213 and 178. Lell contributed a 204 and Sam Leonardo finished with 192 and 190 efforts.
B’ville has back-to-back matches this week at the Sports Bowl against Newark and East Syracuse Minoa.
