BALDWINSVILLE – Once again, the Baldwinsville cross country teams had the distinct advantage of running on its home course for the Salt City Athletic Conference championship meet held Wednesday at Durgee Junior High School.
For the boys Bees, this translated into a second-place overall finish and second in the Metro division portion of the meet. Overall, B’ville’s total of 57 points was beaten only by the 33 from Auburn.
Senior Noah Covert led the hosts, going 15 minutes, 55.5 seconds for third place overall. Only Fayetteville-Manlius’ Nolan McGinn (15:26.0) and Auburn’s Ryan Maher (15:44.5) were quicker.
Ryan Wilson and Paul Clark also recorded top-10 finishes, Wilson going 16:18.8 for eighth place and Clark taking 10th in 16:34.5 as Adam Kozman made his way to 12th place in 16:35.3.
Jacob Guelli rounded out the Bees’ scoring column, his time of 17:21.9 good for 24th place, two spots ahead of Doug Clark, whose 17:28.3 beat out Wyatt Decker (17:30.1) for 26th place. Logan Bolton was 30th in 17:35.4, one ahead of Angelo Sawyers’ 17:37.2 as William Cornell (17:52.7) also had a top-40 finish.
Earlier, in the girls SCAC race, B’ville finished sixth both overall and in the Metro division with 117 points, F-M easily claiming the team title in each instance led by Izzie Sullivan’s winning time of 17:48.9.
Kamryn Barton was sixth among runners outside the F-M group and 11th overall with a time of 19:12.9, less than a second behind the 10th-place 19:12.3 from Liverpool’s Kaitlyn Hotaling.
Ella Defio ran well, too, getting 13th place in 19:17.2, while Sophia Cavalieri made her way to 30th place in 20:44.2. Yolanda Wei’s time of 21:22.9 put her in 39th place, one ahead of Makayla Fowler (21:24.6) as Mariah LeGrow finished 43rd in 21:30.6.
All of this followed B’ville’s Oct. 14 appearance in the Burnt Hills Invitational near Albany, where the boys Bees finished seventh in a 20-team field.
Covert, with his time of 15:37.8, finished 12th in the Division IV race, Kozman’s 15:57.1 beat out Wilson’s 16-minute effort for 27th place as Paul Clark posted 16:36.5 and Decker (17:01.1) beat out Cornell (17:06.3) and Guelli (17:06.8).
On the girls side at Burnt Hills, the Bees were eighth out of 16 sides in Division IV, with Barton finishing 14th in 18:28.2. Defio finished 35th in 19:24 flat, with Wei (19:52.3) also recording a top-50 finish. Cavalieri, in 21:02.8, was just ahead of LeGrow (21:07.1), Fowler (21:28.9) and Rachel Becker (21:28.7).
