JAMESVILLE – Though it was the end of a fall schedule, there was still summer-like warmth and sunshine greeting the Cazenovia and Chittenango boys golf teams for Tuesday’s Section III small-school fall tournament at the Pompey Club.
And after a strong push late in the regular season produced a 7-4 overall mark, the Lakers fared quite well, taking fourth place in a 15-team field with a score of 445.
Nico Segall led Cazenovia, making his way into the top 10 by firing an 18-hole score of 82, good for a tie for ninth place and an automatic spot in next May’s sectional state qualifying tournament.
Battling for another state qualifying berth, Will Guider made it and ended up tying for 15th place, shooting an 85. Edmond Richardson tied for 29th with a 90, Dan Bliss adding a 92 as Paul Mitchell shot 96 and Ben Bianco had a 100.
Chittenango finished ninth in the team standings as, at the top, Christian Brothers Academy pulled away to a victory with 383, well clear of runner-up Skaneaeteles (427) less than a week after taking a defeat to the Lakers, Brothers teammates Jack Gregory and Ethan Snyder tied for individual honors, each shooting 74, three better than Westhill’s Danny Young.
