DEWITT – Having broken two different pool records in a Sept. 19 meet against Christian Brothers Academy, Baldwinsville girls swimmer Eva Smith had a memorable encore at Jamesville-DeWitt a week later.
Not only did Smith win twice on her own, she helped the Bees take two different relays and spurred other winning individual performances, even though the Red Rams prevailed on the team side 96-84.
Back in the CBA meet, Smith had gone 25.08 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle and lowered her own pool record in the 100 backstroke to 58.07.
Against J-D, Smith was involved right away in a victory, joining Erin Gruppe, Eliza Gramiak and Olivia McManus to go 2:03.51 in the 200 medley relay and easily beat the Rams’ 2:11.31.
With little rest, Smith went to the next race, the 200 freestyle, and won there, too, her 2:03.86 just ahead of the 2:05.27 from J-D star Thearyn Wales.
Choosing to go in the 100 butterfly, Smith would win in 1:03.01 as McManus was second in 1:05.52. Then they rejoined Gramiak and Gruppe to prevail in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:51.40.
McManus gained a title in the 200 individual medley in 2:30.15 to the 2:34.45 from J-D’s Evelyn Jones. In the 100 freestyle, Gruppe beat the field, her 1:03.39 ahead of Samantha Wheeler’s 1:05.52.
Gramiak would emerge victorious in the 100 breaststroke, posting 1:23.49 to the 1:27.94 from the Rams’ Nora Barnello, while Caydence Szkotak was second in the 500 freestyle in 6:09.64.
B’ville is again on the road next Tuesday, taking on Cicero-North Syracuse at Nottingham High School before home meets Oct. 10 against Skaneateles and Oct. 17 against Fayetteville-Manlius.
