CENTRAL NEW YORK – Having gone through some early tests, girls tennis teams at Fayetteville-Manlius and Christian Brothers Academy rolled through their respective league opponents.
In last Wednesday’s 6-1 victory over Liverpool, F-M swept the doubles matches, not dropping a set in any of them, while in singles Samreen Mangat blanked Lydia Breckheimer 6-0, 6-0 and Erin McLain beat Chlose Musengo 6-0, 6-1.
By that same 6-1 margin on Thursday afternoon, the Hornets got the best of West Genesee, highlighted by two doubles matches that went to three sets.
Selena Chen saw her early lead get away in a 5-7, 6-2, 6-1 defeat to WG’s Calina Olson, but making their own comeback, Anokhi Dalal and Sonia LaHaye beat Lauren Battaglia and Nicole Vasilev 4-6, 6-1, 6-2.
Angelina Fang and Caitlyn McLain paired up to beat Cynthia Schlenker and Evelina Mauro 7-6 (7-2), 6-2, with the teams of Trisha Adivikolanu-Lindsey Chong and Mangat-Shreya Bhattacharya also winning in two sets. In singles, Caitlyn McLain beat Sarah Domin 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 and Sadie Toole topped Angelina Allen 6-2, 6-2.
CBA handled Homer 7-0 last Monday afternoon, going to 4-0 on the season. Combined, the singles trio of Rowan Doyle, Allie Mancini and Clare Schaefer lost just five games in six sets of singles play.
To maintain the shutout, Meredith Sommers and Audrey Schaefer had to rally in doubles past Emma Effinger and Lauren Franco 5-7, 6-1, 6-4 as the teams of Maddie Kamerviko-Piper Powell, Madison Evans-Julie Zdep and Monica Fallon-Katrina Ricelli each won in two sets.
In another 7-0 shutout on Wednesday, CBA topped Mexico. Mancini and Schaefer did not lose any games in singles as Doyle beat Nataleigh Smith 6-2, 6-1, while in doubles Kamerviko and Powell maintained the shutout in three sets, rallying past Ella Blunt and Abigail Roberts 3-6, 7-5, 10-5.
Manlius Pebble Hill challenged 2-0 Westhill and fell just short in a 4-3 defeat to the Warriors, the decisive point a doubles match where, in three sets, Rose Fallon and Sabrina Loop could not hold its early lead, falling 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 to Kathleen Rogers and Isabella Johnson.
Up in singles, it was all Trojans, with Amitees Fazeli routing Julia Flegel 6-0, 6-1, Caroline Mezzalingua beating Cadence Ramsing 7-6, 6-1 and Fariel Migeed winning 6-1, 7-6 over Claire Delay.
In Wednesday’s 5-2 defeat to Cazenovia, MPH saw Fazeli remain unbeaten by romping past Rachel Molloy 6-2, 6-0, but Mezzalingua could not hold on in a 6-7 (7-5), 6-2, 6-2 defeat to Leah Bell as the Lakers controlled the rest of the match.
MPH then beat Chittenango 6-1 on Friday, getting a singles sweep from Fazeli, Mezzalingua and Migeed while, in doubles, Fallon and Loop stood out, rallying for a 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 win over Molly Douglas and Sarah McKillip.
