ONONDAGA COUNTY – More shuffling is taking place in area high school girls swimming that entirely has to do with home facilities.
Fayetteville-Manlius lost its previous home venue when Cazenovia College closed in the spring. So now the Hornets will practice outdoors at the Cavalry Club (swimmers) and indoors at Jamesville-DeWitt (divers) while having both of its home meets at Le Moyne College, which Christian Brothers Academy calls home.
J-D opened its season against Oswego/Mexico last Wednesday night and rolled to a 102-81 victory, its first step in bouncing back from last year’s 3-5 campaign.
Thearyn Wales and Maggie Lister led J-D with two wins apiece, Wales going 58.86 seconds to edge Joscein Coniski (59.04) in the 100 freestyle and then winning the 100 backstroke in 1:05.88, with Emma Paul second.
As for Lister, she pulled away in the 200 individual medley in 2:31.18 to lead a 1-2-3 Rams sweep with Paul and Cora Bright before she won the 100 breaststroke in 1:14.45, with Leah Abrams second and Evelyn Jones third. Kayla McQuaid scored 274.45 points in diving after Lila Schroth took the 50 freestyle in 27.30 seconds.
Wales, Lister, Schroth and Bright were first in the 200 medley relay in 2:03.03, Abrams joining Wales, Bright and Schroth in the 200 freestyle relay (1:51.02) as Abrams, Lister, Evelyn Jonses and Samantha Wheeler beating the field in the 400 freestyle relay in 4:08.94.
CBA found its own success in last Thursday’s opener against Skaneateles at Le Moyne, handling the Lakers by a score of 103-75.
Anna Fuller started out the meet for the Brothers by helping Jenna Filhan, Madison Ceclia and Ella Zaryski go a quick 2;01.64 in the 200 medley relay to Skaneateles’ 2:08.81.
Then, in a close 200 IM, Fuller, in 2:33.67, edged Ceclia’s 2:34.29 before going to the 100 backstroke and claiming another tight race over Zaryski, 1:06.64 to 1:07.93.
Zaryski did prevail in the 50 freestyle in 26.65 seconds, with Sophia Ciereck winning the 500 freestyle in 5:57.21 and Filhan, in 1:19,24, leading a 1-2-3 sweep in the 100 breaststroke with Alicia Snyder (1:23.64) and Josie Lachut (1:23.91).
Ceclia, Ciereck, Filhan and Zoe Thayer held off Skaneateles, 1:52.17 to 1:52.69, in the 200 freestyle relay, Thayer having already gone 1:00.47 in the 100 freestyle and finishing second in the 200 freestyle in 2:11.88.
