CENTRAL NEW YORK – Area high school track and field teams headed into the post-season last week, and Westhill was dominant in the girls portion of the Onondaga High School League Liberty large-school division meet at Chittenango.
Westhill picked up 277 points, nearly triple that of any other team, while its boys side had to settle for third place with 108 points behind Syracuse ITC (133) and Chittenango (108).
Ashley Bolesh went 5:16.79 to pull away and win the 1,500-meter run before taking the 800-meter run in 2:22.81. Then Bolesh, pairing with Kennedy Rose, Molly Thompson and Abby Rudiger, was victorious in the 4×400 relay in 4:19.99.
Allison Langham was victorious in the 100-meter dash in 13.08 seconds and also took the 200-meter dash in 26.93 as Isabel Leonardo was third in 28.37 before she held off Rose, 1:01.98 to 1:02.64, in the 400-meter dash. Mallie Alt, clearing 8’6″, beat out Baty and Mary Kate Rewakowski (8 feet each) in the pole vault.
Kate Bendall, in 16.13 seconds, went 1-2-3 with Emma Murphy and Ava Baty in the 100-meter hurdles, with Bendall, Langham, Murphy and Derricka Trotman edging Homer, 52.42 to 52.97, in the 4×100 relay before a triple jump where, in another 1-2-3 finish, Bendall won with 34’5 1/2″ to Isabel Young’s 34’3 1/2″ and Leonardo’s 33’6″.
Jules Bleskoski won the 2,000 steeplechase in 8:14.30, while Eileen Mullen was second in the 3,000-meter run in 11:38.02 and Lizzie Horner second in the pentathlon with 1,942 points.
Jael Hill threw the shot put 32’10 1/2″ to win as Morgan Heise was second with 27’8 1/4″, but Heise won the discus with 87’1″ to Emma Marshall’s 78’9″. Ileanna Hopkins was second in the high jump, clearing 4’10”, with Rewakowski third.
Drew O’Reilly, Bohden Centore, Bryce Burdick and Ed Popp took the 4×800 in 8:59.86 as Popp won the 3,000 steeplechase in 11:11.10, edging Homer’s Logan Fitzgerald (11.11.70).
Owen Mulholland, in 58.72 seconds, edged Chittenango’s Joseph Lin (58.80) in the 400 hurdles O’Reilly got second in the 1,600-meter run in 4:37.65 and Centore was fourth, Burdick taking third in the 3,200-meter run. Carter Buckman topped 11 feet to win the pole vault.
Buckman also was third in the 110 hurdles and fifth in the 400 hurdles as Westhill got second in the 4×100 relay in 46.50 seconds and third in the 4×400.
Anthony Osorio went 40’11” for second place in the triple jump as Nazaire Williams took third and Lenny Alt fourth in the pentathlon. Ayden Williams got fourth in the long jump as Derrick Trotman was fifth in the discus.
Meanwhile, the OHSL Liberty small school meet saw host Marcellus take second in the boys meet and Skaneateles second in the girls meet, both of them trailing a sweep at the top by Cazenovia.
Still, there were plenty of victories by the Lakers and Mustangs, starting for the Skaneateles girls with Kyla Palmer going 12.79 seconds to take the 100 sprint as Solvay had Kyira Davis third in 13.59.
Palmer then won the 200 in 25.78, again with Davis getting third place. Maddie Wright cleared 4’8″ to win the high jump as she added a second in the 400 hurdles in 1:12.44, with Caroline McSwain third and Keady Azzam fourth in the steeplechase.
Alice Spaulding took second in the pole vault, clearing 9 feet, and was second in the discus (96’1″) as Solvay’s Emily Rolince won with 104’2″ and added a shot put victory with 31’4″ over the 31’1 1/2″ from Marcellus’ Bailey Ellis.
Also, the Lakers’ 4×800 team of Cate Comer, Tobi DiRubbo, Lucy Fleckenstein and Ellie Springer prevailed in 10:22.66, to go with a second in the 4×100 and a second in the 4×400.
Sophia Maum was second in the 1,500 in 5:17.84. Sophia Bianchi got second in the 100 hurdles in 18.17 seconds, with Wright third for the Lakers as Corrine Aldrich was second in the 800 in 2:35.63 as DiRubbo was third and Emmi Rossiter was third in the 400 sprint in 1:03.24.
On the boys side, Skaneateles’ Will Feeney threw the shot put 48’7″ to beat Marcellus’ Nolan Hoey (39’11 1/2″) and Cameron Sadler (39’11”) and had a winning discus throw of 119’9″ with Henry Thompson third (110’3″)
Max Paciorek won the high jump, clearing 5’10”, and also took the long jump with 19’1 1/2″. Aidan Ward got second in the steeplechase in 11:21.12.
Andrew McCaffrey led Marcellus, winning the pole vault by clearing 11 feet. He added a second in the 100 in 11.90 seconds to Cazenovia’s J.P. Hoak (11.86). Owen Alexander was second in the 110 hurdles in 17.46 seconds and Paul Swenson second in the triple jump with 38’6″.
Joe Striffler took second in the 400 sprint in 53.01 seconds, with Lukas Grieb third in the 400 hurdles in 1:06.09 and Nolan Manahan fourth in the 800. The Mustangs were second in the 4×400 in 3:47.43.
Solvay’s boys got a victory in the 4×100 as Ikeem Vaughn, Aidan Galvin, Luis Mojica and Tristan Hawley went 46.34 seconds to Skaneateles’ 47.25, and Galvin was first in the 200 in 23.80 as McCaffrey was third, Vaughn taking third in the long jump. Also for the Bearcats, Jairo DeJesus was victorious in the pentathlon with 2,076 points, edging the 2,051 from Hannibal’s Gavin Griffin.
