CENTRAL NEW YORK – Area high school track and field teams wound down their regular seasons and looked ahead to various league championships that take place this week.
That included a meet Wednesday between Marcellus and Solvay, where on the boys side the Mustangs’ Andrew McCaffrey led the way as his team defeated the Bearcats 108-32.
McCaffrey managed to clear 10 feet 10 inches in the pole vault and went 18’8 1/2” in the long jump, also taking the 100-meter dash in 11.6 seconds and the 200-meter dash in 23.5.
James Hoey threw the discus 101 feet and also took the shot put with 39’6”, while Owen Alexander took first in the 3,200-meter run in 11:23 flat and the 110 hurdles in 17.3 seconds.
Evan Fullagar had a triple jump of 36’6”, with Nolan Manahan winning the 800 in 2:14.3, Joe Striffler going 55.3 seconds in the 400-meter dash and Liam Eldridge running 1,600 meters in 4:54 flat. Kolton Finarty beat the field in the 400 hurdles in 1:07.2.
Solvay did get a win from Ikeem Vaughn topping 5’2” in the high jump. Vaughn, Tristin Hawley, Aidan Galvin and Jaedyn Godbolt took the 4×100 relay in 47.5 seconds, with Hawley, Goldbolt, Galvin and Miguel Limia taking the 4×400 in 3:58.10.
On that same day, the Skaneateles girls rebounded from a loss to Cazenovia the week before by handling Hanniball by a score of 90-50.
Alice Spaulding won three events, throwing the discus 87’2” and the shot put 27’11” while also clearing 8’6” in the pole vault. Kyla Palmer went 25.60 seconds in the 200-meter dash and 12.74 in the 100.
Lucy Fleckenstein swept to wins in the 400 sprint in 1:06.1 and the 3,000 in 12:12.0, while Tobi DiRubbo went 2:32.9 in the 800 and won the 1,500 in 5:01.3. Maddie Wright cleared 4’10” to win the high jump as the Lakers swept through the 4×800 (11:35.7), 4×100 (54.4 seconds) and 4×400 (4:54.1) relays.
West Genesee took on Baldwinsville and Corcoran last Monday, the boys Wildcats able to beat the Cougars 94-43, but taking a 99-42 defeat to the first-place Bees.
Westhill swept past Institute of Technology Central last Monday 121-18 on the girls side as Allison Langham won the 100 sprint in 12.9 and the 200 in 26.6.
Isabel Leonardo went 34’3” in the triple jump and took the 400 hurdles, too. Ashley Bolesh had a top long jump of 16’10” as Jael Hill (shot put), Emma Marshall (discus), Mary Kate Rewakowski (high jump), Mallie Alt (pole vault), Kate Bendall (100 hurdles), Kennedy Rose (400 sprint) and Katelyn Sanisbury (3,000) also got individual titles.
From there, Westhill went to Friday’s John Arcaro Co-ed Classic at Baldwinsville and saw Bolesh win the 400 hurdles in 1:03.87, nearly four seconds ahead of the field as Young took fourth in 1:10.42.
Langham won the 200 in 26.47 seconds to the 26.55 from Cicero-North Syracuse’s Jaydin Mackey and was third in the 100 sprint in 12.77. Leonardo was third (1:01.72) in the 400 sprint and third in the triple jump with 33’8”.
Alt was fifth and Rewakowski sixth in the pole vault as Marcellus earned third place in the 4×400 in 4:17.12 and the Mustangs’ Bailey Ellis threw the shot put 32’7” to edge Hill (32’6”) for third place.
Westhill’s boys had Owen Muholland, Julian Curtis, Bohdan Centore and Drew O’Reilly take second in the 4×800 relay in 8:31.94, while Marcellus was fifth in 9:03.96. Carter Buckman took third in the pole vault, clearing 11 feet, with Anthony Osorio fifth in the triple jump.
West Genesee had Logan Scott finish fifth in the boys 400 hurdles in 1:00.50 and Dylan Frost fifth in the 100 in 11.43 while on the girls side Andrea Conklin ran the 800 in 2:29.74 for third place.
