CICERO – Leaving little question as to who stood on top of the SCAC Metro division, the Cicero-North Syracuse girls track and field team earned a clean sweep of Wednesday’s showdown with Liverpool and Fayetteville-Manlius at Bragman Stadium.
But the boys Northstars won all sides of it, too, taking out Liverpool 95-46 and F-M 102-39 as, on the girls side, it was C-NS defeating Liverpool 92-49 and handling F-M 105-33.
Taking both of the boys sprints, C-NS’s Jayceon McGrew beat Davine Bennette, 11.22 seconds to 11.32, in the 100-meter dash while going 23.14 to top Jordan Ballard (23.78) in the 200-meter dash.
Dan Henry got first in the 400-meter dash in 53.45 seconds as James McConnell (54.02) was runner-up, with Camron Ingram speeding to 14.93 in the 110 high hurdles and Ballard first in the 400 hurdles in 1:01.40, with Andrew Potter (1:04.16) in second place.
In the 1,600-meter run, Dante Melfi, in 4:31.14, pulled away from Liverpool’s Michael Purvis (4:37.61) as Joshua Vang was second in the 3,200-meter run in 10:23.28 to F-M’s James Ditre (10:20.18) and Austin Ziegler was second in the 800-meter run in 2:07.33, edging Roman Murray’s 2:07.87.
C-NS’s Joe Main swept the throwing events, heaving the discus 138 feet 8 inches to go with a top shot put toss of 45’4” as Henry cleared 10’6” to win the pole vault.
Liverpool’s Ny’Quez Madison went 20’5” to win the long jump over C-NS’s Trevon Walker (19’3 1/2”) and was second in the high jump, clearing 5’6”, with the Northstars’ Tyler Graham second in the triple jump with 38’3”.
To lead the C-NS girls, Jaydin Mackey won the 100-meter dash in 12.77 to the 12.86 from Liverpool’s Mikayla Greene, Mackey adding a 200-meter title in 26.55 to teammate Grace Murray’s 26.82.
Murray would win the 400 hurdles in 1:09.94, with Emily Aiello (1:12.97) second for Liverpool as Aaliyah McDonald, in 15.87 seconds, edged Anna Eells (15.99) for first in the 100 hurdles.
Marissa Navarra took the 3,000-meter run in 11:03.10, but was second in the 1,500 in 4:59.01, edged by the 4:58.06 from Liverpool’s Taylor Page, who prevented a Northstars distance sweep.
Still, there was Hannah Boyle going 1:02.69 to claim the 400-meter dash and Kate Putman running 800 meters in 2:29.12 to hold off the 2:30.91 from Liverpool’s Addison Ziegler.
The C-NS girls also had Jasmine Ayre go 1610 3/4” in the long jump to beat Kallie Congden’s 16’6 1/4”, with Morgan Hayes (35’1 1/4”) edging Eells (35’1”) by one-quarter of an inch in the triple jump. Eells was also second in the high jump to Congden’s 5’1” as Kaleigh Bosimenu topped 7’6” and Anne Capone 7 feet in the pole vault.
Again leading the Liverpool girls effort, Allie Cary won the discus with a throw of 112′ 1/4” as she had a first-place shot put toss of 39’9” to beat teammate Janea Hamilton-Brown’s 32’7”. Meghan Moyer finished second in the 3,000 in 11:25.16.
When both C-NS and Liverpool went to Friday’s John Arcaro Co-ed Classic at Baldwinsville, the girls finished second (65 points) and third (63 points) behind East Syracuse Minoa’s winning total of 69 points.
Congden won twice, going 17’4 1/2” to beat third-place Maddie Devendorf (16’3 1/2”) in the long jump and also was victorious in the 100 hurdles in 15.32 seconds and second in the long jump, clearing 5’4”, to go with a fourth in the triple jump as Gianna Boland was fifth.
Mackey got third in the 400 hurdles in 1:08.14 and fourth in the 100 sprint ahead of Liverpool’s Maddie Devendorf in fifth. Mackey, in 26.55, was a close second to Westhill’s Allison Langham (26.47) in the 200 as Aaliyah McDonald finished fourth. Navarra was fifth in the 1,500.
As for Liverpool, the 4×800 relay team of Page, Ziegler, Jailyn Parrotte and Kaitlyn Hotaling won in 10:10.54, with C-NS third as Page was second (10:45.13) and Moyer third in the 3,000, Hotaling adding a fifth in the 800.
Cary’s discus throw of 112’1” beat the field by more than 15 feet, while her shot put of 38’3 3/4” just trailed the 38’5” from Jamesville-DeWitt’s Hailey Webber.
The C-NS boys were third and Liverpool fifth at the Arcaro meet as Sean Graves was victorious in the 400 hurdles in 58.49 seconds, edging Watertown’s Camiren Collins (58.60) as Ingram took the 110 hurdles in 14.92, with Xander Provost fifth. Henry took fourth in the shot put.
McGrew, in 22.56 seconds, claimed second in the 200. Melfi was third (2:01.01) and Graves fourth (2:03.09) in the 800. Tyler Graham got fourth place in the 1,600.
For Liverpool, Madison had a winning long jump of 20’6 1/2”, with Walker fourth. Madison also was third in the triple jump (41’8”) and helped Liverpool get second in the 4×100 relay in 44.36 seconds to Corcoran’s 44.21.
Roman Murray was third in the 3,000 steeplechase in 10:39.93. Liverpool (8:39.65) was third and C-NS fourth (8:47.65) in the 4×800, the Northstars also fourth in the 4×400.
