CENTRAL NEW YORK – Nearing the end of April, area high school track and field teams increased their workload with both league meets and large-scale events.
West Genesee went up against Liverpool and Nottingham and, in this three-way meet, could not quite get a sweep, handling the Bulldogs 102-37, but losing 78-61 to LHS.
In the boys meet, WG had Dom Burris finish first in the triple jump (40’5 1/2”) and long jump (20’9 1/4”), while Will Fettig took the 400-meter dash in 55.19 seconds and Casey Comny won the 800 in 2:08.19.
WG’s girls had a split of the same meet, prevailing 89-48 over Nottingham but falling to Liverpool despite Da’Mya Rufus winning the 100 sprint in 12.82 seconds and Chloe Fietze taking the 3,000 in 10:48.64.
Marcellus swept Christian Brothers Academy, winning the girls meet 113-19 and the boys meet 90-47.
For the girls Mustangs, Abby Bianchi and Anella Bolster won three events apiece. Bianchi ran the 100 sprint in 13.9 seconds, the 100 hurdles in 17.3 and the 200 in 28.7 as Bolster went 14 feet in the long jump, cleared 6 feet in the pole vault and had a top triple jump of 31’1”. Bailey Ellis swept the shot put (30’8”) and discus (84’1”).
Nate Alexander was victorious in the boys 110 hurdles in 17.0 seconds and the 3,200 in 11:29.7, also pairing with Mitch Donegan, Evan Fullagar and Colden Kwasnowski to take the 4×100 relay in 50 seconds flat.
Donegan, Joe Striffler, Andrew McCaffrey and Nolan Manahan ran the 4×400 in 3:45.3 as McCaffrey topped 8 feet in the pole vault. Fullagar was first in the long jump with 18 feet as Scott Hall threw the discus 116’5 1/4” and Robert Hakes won the high jump with 5’2”.
Westhill won its boys meet 98-38 over Homer, Carter Buckman beating the field with a 10-foot pole vault and a time of 1:08.5 in the 400 hurdles as Furious McIntyre won the 100 (11.6) and 200 (24.4) sprints.
Ayden Williams unleashed a triple jump of 35′ 1/4” as wins also went to Nazaire Williams (high jump), Edward Popp (3,200), Brayden Centore (800), Owen Muholland (400 sprint) and Bryce Burdick (1,600).
A more lopsided 115-22 win by the Westhill girls included Ashley Bolesh going 1:00.7 in the 400 sprint and Allison Langham helping out with three wins, going 13.0 seconds in the 100 sprint and 15’3” in the long jump as she also helped the 4×100 relay team prevail in 52.2.
Solvay saw its boys team face Mexcico and fall 97-43 to the Tigers. Dylan Mumford swept the shot put (37’9”) and discus (105’5”), while Jack Burke took the 800 in 2:23.2 and Tristan Hawley won the 100 sprint in 11.9 seconds.
The girls Bearcats fall 92-20 to Mexico, though Emily Rolince swept the throwing events, heaving the shot put 27’11” and adding a top discus throw of 91’5”.
Jordan-Elbridge lost its boys meet to Port Byron 106-34, the Eagles seeing Alex Kunz winning four events. Kunz swept the 800 (2:21.8), 1,600 (5 minutes) and 3,200 (11:51.4) while also running the 400 hurdles in 1:17 flat.
