CENTRAL NEW YORK – Records fell and many fine individual performances were achieved when the East Syracuse Minoa and Jamesville-DeWitt track and field teams faced one another last Wednesday at Spartan Stadium in a three-team meet that also involved Cortland.
In the girls event, which ESM won 96-45 over the Red Rams and 130-10 over the Purple Tigers, the Spartans’ Evani McDuffie broke the school record in the 100-meter dash. J-D did beat Cortland 91-43 to salvage a split of the girls meet,
J-D’s boys team was able to claim both sides of its meet, not only beating ESM 73-68, but also handling Cortland 91-43 as, again, ESM had no trouble with Cortland 113-21 to earn another split.
The ESM boys, along with the J-D, Manlius Pebble Hill and Bishop Grimes girls, were part of last Friday’s Onondaga Invitational, gaining some top finishes.
In the girls shot put, J-D’s Hailey Webber threw it 36 feet 10 inches to beat Jillian Webber’s second-place 32’6”. But it was Jillian winning the discus with 98’10” to Hailey’s 92’11” in the runner-up spot.
Elsewhere for the Red Rams, Brielle Rivera took third place in the pole vault, clearing 7’6” as Emma Deehan (7 feet) finished fifth. Rebecca Mendez Squier was sixth in the 1,500-meter run.
Grimes’ Rosalie Vincent was victorious in the 200-meter dash in 26.61 seconds, with teammate Riley Abernethy fourth in 28.73, Ella Reilly went 1:12.38 in the 400 hurdles for second place.
Edy Livingston finished third in the 3,000-mter run in 11:35.67 as MPH’s Tea Hokanson was sixth. Abernethy took third in the 400 sprint in 1:03.50 and Ella Reilly fourth in the 800 in 2:30.55. Grimes was fourth in the 4×100 relay in 51.65 seconds.
ESM’s boys peaked when Aidan Hirt beat the field in the 200 in 23.21 seconds, edging the 23.25 from Watertown’s Camiren Collins. Andrew LeMarche had a second-place shot put throw of 41’4 1/4” and Charlie English cleared 10 feet for second in the pole vault.
Mika Combs went 11.62 seconds for fourth place in the 100-meter dash as Joe Pedrosa-Garcia was fourth in the 400 hurdles (1:02.64) and Abdi Aden was fifth in the 110 hurdles in 17.0.
J-Ds Daviel Cruz finished fifth in the discus with 109’1” as teammate Noah Rafkis got third place in the 800 in 2:11.58, with ESM’s Seamus DeAndre sixth. Terrell Willis was fifth in the triple jump (39 feet) and sixth in the long jump.
Christian Brothers Academy lost its boys meet 90-47 to Marcellus even though Darien Williams took the 100 sprint in 11.0 seconds and the 400 in 54.1, with Cameron Smith going 23.8 in the 200.
Elsewhere, Kyle Gaffney won the 1,600 in 4:53.6 and Joe McMahon went 2:15 flat in the 800 as Merino Merola threw the shot put 38 feet.
The CBA girls’ 113-19 defeat to Marcellus included Ally Roueche claiming first place in the 1,500 in 5:29.2 as Grace Fletcher ran the 800 in 2:30.4 to win that event.
