CHITTENANGO – Now was the time for the Liverpool and Cicero-North Syracuse track and field teams to move toward the large-scale meets that will largely define their 2023 seasons.
This included the Chittenango Invitational, where C-NS and Liverpool both appeared and the girls and boys Northstars both finished atop the team standings.
No individual did better than Liverpool’s Allie Cary, who won the girls shot put with a toss of 37 feet 1 ½ inches as Janea Hamilton-Brown was fourth (31’3 1/2”). Cary’s discus throw of 122 feet beat the field by more than 17 feet.
Hannah Boyle led the C-NS girls, going two minutes, 20.34 seconds to claim the 800-meter run, nearly two full seconds ahead of the field. Kalli Congden added a victory in the 100 hurdles in 15.44 seconds, with Anna Eells third in 15.89.
Morgan Hayes earned 2,533 points for second place in the girls pentathlon as Xander Provost contended in the boys pentathlon, getting third place. Grace Murray had a second-place time of 1:10.32 in the 400-meter hurdles.
Jasmine Ayre cleared 4’10” for third place in the high jump, while Anna Eells was fourth and Kalli Congden fifth in the long jump.
The C-NS boys won the 4×400 as Da n Henry, Dante Melfi, Jacob Klasen and Sean Graves posted 3:35.94 to hold off the 3:36.49 from runner-up Jamesville-DeWitt. Henry later was fourth in the pole vault, clearing 10’6”.
Camron Ingram won the 110 high hurdles in 15.37 seconds over Chittenango’s Joseph Lin (15.75). Joe Main had a third-place shot put toss of 42’7” and was fifth in the discus with 126’3”.
Liverpool saw Michael Purvis claim victory in the full-field mile in 4:39.12 as C-NS’s Dante Melfi claimed third place in 4:41.58, while Ny’Quez Madison had a second-place triple jump of 41’1” as C-NS’s Terrance Coppack was sixth.
Purvis helped LHS to a second-place finish in the 4×800 in 8:50.10, beating C-NS’s third-place 8:53.35. Nick Dailey was sixth in the 400 hurdles and Davis Farrell was seventh in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
For C-NS, Trevon Walker had a fourth-place long jump of 20’1”. Jayceon McGrew took fifth in the 100-meter dash in 11.33, tied for fifth in the high jump and ran a leg as the Northstars were third in the 4×100 in 45.54, Liverpool getting fifth place in 45.73.
Graves ran the 400-meter dash in 53.11 seconds for fourth place. Jaydin Mackey was eighth in the 100-meter dash and helped C-NS take fourth in the 4×100 relay in 52.70 seconds as Liverpool was seventh.Tyler Graham got sixth place in the 800.
In the 4×800, Liverpool’s girls had Addison Ziegler, Meghan Moyer, Taylor Page and Kaitlyn Hotaling get second place in 10:11.92. Ziegler was second in the 2,000-meter steeeplechase in 7:42.33, with teammate Kaitlin Fico sixth.
Page took seventh in the featured Fleet Feet Mile in 5:17.39. Layla Pearl Collins got fourth in the pole vault, clearing 7’6” as C-NS’s Kaleigh Bosimenu took fifth place.
Before all this, Liverpool had a three-way meet last Wednesday against West Genesee and Nottingham, finding plenty of success across the board against the Wildcats and Bulldogs.
In the boys meet, won 78-61 over WG and 115-26 over Nottingham, Anthony Kelly threw the discus 115 feet 7 inches as Nathan Napiorkowski was first in the shot put with 35’4” and Solomon Panayil claimed the pole vault, clearing 9 feet.
Purvis went 9:57.99 to pull away and win the 3,200. Dailey had the top time of 1:04.17 in the 400-meter hurdles as Roman Murray needed 4:52.38 to win the 1,600-meter run.
On the girls side, Liverpool routed both West Genesee 115-26 and Nottingham 118-22, with Cary throwing the discus 111’8” and the shot put 36’3” as Page took the 400 sprint in 1:04.44 and the 1,500 in 5:02.51.
Collins cleared 8’3” in the pole vault, with Maddie Devendorf going 15’9” in the long jump. Ziegler was victorious in the 800 in 2:28.37 as Mikayla Greene sprinted to victory in the 200 in 27.09 seconds.
