CENTRAL NEW YORK – Having won its opening event at the Tully Spring Break Invitational April 3, the East Syracuse Minoa girls track and field team carried it over into SCAC Empire division competition.
The Spartans beat Auburn 91-46 and PSLA Fowler 126-19 Wednesday afternoon, taking full advantage of the warm conditions that was present in all meets during the week.
Akuot Kuany again led ESM’s efforts, clearing 5 feet 3 inches in the high jump to beat Arianna Brennen (5’2”) and Kaleigh Maloof (5’1”) while also taking the 100 hurdles in 16.0 seconds to Brennen’s 16.8.
But Brennen was first in both the shot put, where her 29’3” edged Bryce Jones’ 29’1”, and the long jump, where she went 14’4 1/2” as Margaret Mading (33’6”) beat Maloof (31’5”) in the triple jump.
Evanni McDuffie’s efforts included a 100-meter dash of 12.1 seconds, a 200-meter dash of 26.30 over Anaharie Anderson (27.8) and, pairing with Kuany, Anderson and Maloof, a 4×100 relay of 51 seconds flat.
In 1:12.0, Andersone edged Amber Hayes in the 400 hurdles, but Hayes would help McDuffie, Giana DiPietro and Lilia Pena go 4:26.8 in the 4×400 relay. Pena was victorious in the 400-meter dash in 1:02.4.
ESM’s boys team beat Auburn 75-56 as Sumit Kadariya edged teammate Aidan Hirt, 10.9 seconds to 11.0, in the 100 and also had a top long jump of 18’9 1/2” while pairing with Hirt, Mikah Combs and Hussein Abdi to win the 4×100 in a quick 44.1.
In the 4×800, Brandon Cerlanek, Sol Scofield, Joe Pedrosa-Garcia and Stephen Winans won in 8:51.5, with Hirt going 22.7 seconds and finishing 1-2 with Combs (23.1) in the 200 as Pedrosa-Garcia took the 400 hurdles in 1:00.2.
Ryan Sullivan, who won the 110 hurdles in 15.77 seconds, cleared 5’8” in the high jump and had a first-place triple jump of 36’10”, while Luke Mancini topped 10’6” in the pole vault.
Jamesville-DeWitt had its own big meet against Central Square and won on both sides, the boys prevailing 80-61 and the girls defeating the Redhawks 80-57. Both J-D sides also won against Oswego – the girls 87-53, the boys 107-34.
For the J-D girls, Hailey Webber threw the discus 108 feet and the shot put 36’8” as Ellyana Deng had a top triple jump of 37’6” and unleashed a long jump of 20’8”.
Among the boys stars was Andrew Valladres, who cleared 5’10” in the high jump and took the 400 sprint in 54 seconds flat as, among a sweep of distance races, Chris Groat ran the 1,600 in 4:54.6 and the 800 in 2:13.6.
Fayetteville-Manlius needed its great distance runners to pull out a 72-69 decision over West Genesee as the boys lost, 79-62, to the Wildcats.
Izzie Sullivan ran 1,500 meters in 4:59 and 3,000 meters in 10:24 as Maria Khalifeh was first in the 800 in 2:29.4. Isabella Adrian claimed the 400 sprint in 1:05 flat and the 400 hurdles in 1:16.9.
Madison Kirkpatrick was first in both the shot put (27’7”) and discus (76’1”), while Kara Evans had a top long jump of 12’10 1/2”.
Cooper Dereszynski starred for F-M’s boys with a trio of wins, going 17.5 seconds in the 110 hurdles and 1:02.2 in the 400 hurdles while also clearing 5’8” in the high jump.
Nolan McGinn broke the 10-minute mark (9:54.0) in the 3,200 after he claimed the 1,600 in 4:38.2, while Dan Kenney threw the shot put 37’10 1/2” and the discus 98’8”. McGinn, Mason Weires, Anthony Otis and Peter McBride were first in the 4×800 in 9:12.5.
Christian Brothers Academy took defeats of 72-45 (girls) and (boys) to Phoenix. In the girls event, Ally Roeuche (400 sprint, 3,000) and Grace Fletcher (100 and 200 sprints) each won two events as the 4×800 side prevailed in 11:33.4.
In the CBA boys’ 104-37 defeat to the Firebirds, Darien Williams ran an 11-second 100 sprint while also taking the 200 in 22.7. Kyle Gaffney had the Brothers’ other title, going 5:00.8 to win the 1,600.
