ONONDAGA COUNTY – A loud and clear statement was made by the East Syracuse Minoa girls track and field team during Monday’s Tully Spring Break Invitaional.
By earning 135 points, the Spartans dominated a 15-team field, with Cazenovia’s 84 points far back in second place.
Evanni McDuffie was victorious in the 100-meter dash in 12.73 seconds, the only time under 13, and joined Anharie Anderson, Akuot Kuany and Kaleigh Maloof to win the 4×100 relay in 52.13, beating out Cazenovia (53.39) for top honors.
Arianna Brennen impressed with her 2,373 points that won the pentathlon. By far her best effort was in the high jump, where she cleared 5 feet 4 ½ inches and no one else topped 4’9”.
Akuot Kuany set a high early-season standard in the high jump, topping 5 feet 6 inches to win an event where Margaret Mading was second, clearing 4’10”.
Anaharie Anderson, in 1:12.57, edged Hannibal’s Lena Turaj (1:12.67) to win the 400 hurdles as Amber Hayes got third place in 1:15.52 to go with a fifth (28.33 seconds) in the 200-meter dash. Anderson went 14’5 1/2” in the long jump to snatch third place.
Rachael Ladd covered 1,500 meters in 5:29.98, beating the 5:35.79 from Fulton’s Audrina Horton as Danika Besig was eighth Amber Hayes, Lilia Pena, Leah Rehm and Gianna DiPetro took second in the 4×400 relay in 4:24.56. Pena was sixth in the 400-meter dash.
Kaleigh Maloof went 18.58 seconds for third place in the 100-meter hurdles, while Gianna Brilbeck had a fourth-place shot put toss of 26’3 1/2”, Malania Irons getting seventh place in the discus with 65’1′. Elise Mancini topped 7 feet in the pole vault for third place.
Rachael Burt took fourth in the 3,000-meter run in 11:58.94, with Bailey Rehm fourth in the 800 in 2:48.46 and Leah Rehm in seventh place. ESM’s 4×100 throwers finished fifth in 1:08.38 as Ladd, Burt, Jaelyn Jordan and Ainsley McKenna were fourth (11:41.15) in the 4×800.
Jamesville-DeWitt debuted a day later at the Westhill Spring Break Invitational as its lone win came from Andres Valladares, who took the boys high jump by clearing 5’8”, two inches ahead of the field as Musaffa Aziz topped 9 feet for third in the pole vault.
On the girls side for the Red Rams, Victoria Payne, Nikki Militi, Abiyah Campbell and Amariyah McClinton were second in the 4×400 relay in 4:24.68.
Hailey Webber’s second-place shot put throw of 36’3” was just behind Liverpool’s Allie Cary (36’9”) as Jillian Webber was third with 32’8”. Jillian Webber’s 95’8” edged Hailey (95’7”) and Kenna Ridzi (88’3”) for third in the discus.
Payne was third in the 100 sprint in 13.19 seconds, adding a fourth in the 200 in 27.21 ahead of Nikki Militi’s fifth-place 27.25. Meghana Reddy got fourth in the 800 in 2:32.98.
Molly McIntyre went 8:41.32 in the 2,000 steeplechase for fifth place. Ridzi was sixth in the pole vault, clearing 7’6”, with Ellyana Deng seventh in the high jump and triple jump.
Hudson Groat dashed to third in the boys 800 in 2:00.67, not far from the winning 2:00.26 from Chittenango’s Caleb LeBlanc.
J-D was fourth in the 3×100 shuttle hurdles relay in 56.28 seconds and fifth in the 4×400 in 3:46.98. Connor Clarkson took sixth in the 3,000 steeplechase in 10:41.78 and Dasksh Maini was sixth in the 200 hurdles. Brayden Rivera got sixth place in the long jump.
