CENTRAL NEW YORK – In large part due to its Jan. 9 victory over Auburn, the East Syracuse Minoa boys bowling team had made it to the top of the Salt City Athletic Conference Empire division.
And the Spartans maintained its good form in last Tuesday’s 7-0 romp over Oswego, with Zach Kassel shooting a second-game 237 on his way to a 591 series.
Close behind, Mike Saunders had a 589 series with games of 203 and 200, while Luke Liedka opened with a 241 in his 578 series. Ryan Buffum’s three-game total of 537 beat out the 526 series from Kyle Nissen and 478 set from Kevin Herlihy.
ESM’s girls prevailed 7-0 over Oswego last Tuesday night, the Spartans led by Jewelianna Hallock, who shot games of 170 and 165 in her 475 series. Alana Tubreville added a three-game total of 436 as Averie Lynch added a 361 series.
Fayetteville-Manlius met West Genesee last Tuesday at Solvay Recreation Alley, with the boys and girls Hornets both earning wins over the Wildcats.
Sean Bird, with his three-game total of 455 and 165 high game, beat out Ryan Yenny’s 446 set. Gabriel Williams closed with a 157 in his 526 effort. F-M’s girls won 7-0 as Samantha Estock had a 460 series and 168 high game.
F-M then hosted Liverpool on Friday afternoon and the boys Hornets, led by superb efforts from Bird and Williams, defeated the Warriors 5-2 to improve to 11-3 overall and stay unbeaten against SCAC Metro division foes.
Games of 196, 243 and 224 gave Bird a 663 series ahead of Williams, who shot 197, 227 and 188 in his 606 set. This, along with a 534 series (200 high game) from Adam Koss, overcame Liverpool getting a 609 series from Zach Doing and 594 series from Jackson Allen.
Estock stood out for the F-M girls in a 7-0 defeat, her games of 201, 193 and 226 part of a 620 series, None of her teammates got close to that mark as Liverpool had Kenzi Ormsby shoot a 634 series and Kenzie Gill a 579 series.
Christian Brothers Academy split its match against Solvay on Thursday afternoon, the boys prevailing 5-2 and the girls falling to the Bearcats by that same margin.
To lead the boys Brothers, Ryan Mulhern shot a 550 with a high game of 215. Just behind him, Jake Mason had a 539 series and 200 high game as Zach Mulhern’s 220 closed a 514 set and Tom Dearnaley had a 486 series.
In the girls match, Solvay claimed the games 730-683, 698-689 and 744-713 despite CBA’s Eliana Occhino’s top 610 series that had games of 226 and 200, plus a 391 series from Sophia Ciereck.
Bishop Grimes faced Weedsport last Thursday, taking a 5-2 defeat on the girls side as Lania Young had a 425 series. In the boys 7-0 defat, Bruno Kinsey shot games of 218, 199 and 178 in a 595 series as Casey Mierek (506 series) and Dom Beitz (505 series) followed.
