BALDWINSVILLE – By now it’s clear to everyone that the Baldwinsville boys basketball team will go as far as what its defense can do.
And that Bees defense did plenty in last Tuesday’s home game against Fayetteville-Manlius, making all sorts of important stops during a 39-36 victory over the Hornets.
F-M was a team that had won five of its previous six games and was led by Trevor Roe, who had amassed 40 points and 20 rebounds in his team’s Jan. 13 victory over Corcoran.
Here, though, the entire Hornets roster would not reach the 40-point mark, held in check by a stifling Bees unit which managed to hone in on Roe and also contain the rest of the lineup.
Roe still had 20 points and Chris Cleary nine points, but just two other F-M players hit field goals as B’ville limited it to four points in the first quarter and then clamped down again in the final period.
Meanwhile, rallying from a 26-23 deficit with a fourth-quarter rally, B’ville spread it around. Jason Bifulco and Nick Hollingshead each got nine points, with Matt Young adding eight points and Ethan Hilliar getting six points.
Back at the .500 mark (6-6), B’ville saw its game at West Genesee postponed last Friday. It will return to action Tuesday for a rematch with F-M before hosting Liverpool on Friday night.
