CENTRAL NEW YORK – With all of its great work this winter, the Jordan-Elbridge wrestling team has richly earned a spot in the Division II portion of the Section III Dual Meet.
When the Eagles defeated APW/Pulaski 49-23 Wednesday night, it managed to clinch the regular-season Onondaga High School League Division I regular-season championship.
They opened at 215 pounds, where Raiden Yale pinned Joe Richadrs in 83 seconds, and Aiden Baker followed at 285 pounds with a 43-second fall over Nick Todeschini.
Two more falls followed when Lucas Witter (110 pounds) pinned Logan Zimmer in 50 seconds and Tyler Chilson, at 118 pounds, had a second-period pin of Celia Lando.
After Logan Merriam (126 pounds) beat Josie Forkhamer 12-4, Dylan Nolan, at 132 pounds, got a 60-second pin of Andrew Cusson. Henry Smith (145 pounds) won a 3-0 battle with Ethan Purdy as Bryce Mahoney, at 152 pounds, pinned Abraham Yeardon in the second period.
During the Jan. 7 Port Byron Mid-Winter Classic, the Eagles were in the same field with West Genesee and Marcellus and beat both of them, its 162 points trailing only Central Square and Wellsvile.
Nolan and Jack Lamson both prevailed. At 126, Nolan met WG’s Logan Willis in a close, hard-fought title bout that Nolan claimed 8-6, while Lamson blanked Purdy 9-0 in his138-pound final.
Finishing fifth, WG also had Maxx Fesinger in the finals, at 145, where he fell to South Seneca’s Caleb Sweet 11-1 as Austin Fesinger (102 pounds) and Dylan Radcliffe (132 pounds) had fourth-place efforts.
Radcliffe reached his consolation bracket final, where Marcellus’ Trevor Rankin faced him and won 7-2, giving the Mustangs its best finish of the meet.
WG and Marcellus both wrestled last Wednesday against league foes – and both won, the Wildcats topping Fayetteville-Manlius 42-30 and the Mustangs beating Hannibal 45-27.
In WG’s case, it lost the first two bouts at 138 and 145 before Maxx Fesinger’s 98-second pin of Josh Leffkowicz began a streak of four in a row.
Jacob Severson (160 pounds) beat Grover Chowning 11-3, with Raul Colon (172 pounds) pinning Ulf Kreshpaj in the second period and Omar Almlaiti (189 pounds) topping Francis Barr 8-2.
F-M rallied to lead 30-19, but the Wildcats swept everything else, starting at 110 with Austin Fesinger’s second-period pin of Graham Dauksza. Radcliffe pinned Luis Rivera, Harrison Card (118) pinned John Bullis in 79 seconds and Willis blanked Eric Kozlowski in a 15-0 technical fall.
Meanwhile, Marcellus got quick pins from Anthony Decapio (145) over Brandon Turaj in 48 seconds and Chris Doshna (160) over Caleb Moore in 55 seconds as Jayden Abbott, at 189, took 77 seconds to pin Drew Butterfield.
Forfeits went to Colin Scherer (126), Hollis Child (132) and Travis Stack (152), but Rankin handled Todd Halsdorf 11-1 as Jack Burton, at 118, shut out Alan Stupp in his 16-0 technical fall.
