SYRACUSE – With victories in each of its first three meets of the season, the Baldwinsville boys indoor track and field team would continue to flourish in the last event of 2022.
During the Westhill Invitational held Wednesday at SRC Arena, the Bees saw Brandon Levin win the long jump, his best attempt of 19 feet 9 ¾ inches more than half a foot better than the 19’2” from Skaneateles’ Max Paciorek.
On the track, Levin, in the 4×200 relay, joined Griffin Killian, Kaleb Paul and Pat Otts to finish in one minute, 38.57 seconds and edge Jamesville-DeWitt (1:38.90) for the title.
Levin also was second (6.85 seconds) to Cicero-North Syracuse’s Davine Bennett (6.74) in the 55-meter dash, with Paul grabbing fifth place in 6.93.
Jack McAllister was victorious at 600 meters, his 1:26.35 edging the 1:26.78 from Troy LaSalle’s Alex Rotondi as Logan Hayes got third place in 1:29.14. Then, in the 1,600-meter run, Noah Covert prevailed in 4:36.39, going 1-2 with Bees teammate Ryan Wilson (4:39.21) as Adam Kozman finished ninth.
In field events, Dimiti Ioannidis unleashed a shot put throw of 40 feet that beat the 39’1” from Springer’s Graeden Heichberger.
Jackson Creelman, in 8.39 seconds, took second to Chittenango’s Joseph Lin (8.22) in the 55 hurdles, with Logan Zapf fourth in 8.66 before he improved to third in the triple jump with 38’3 3/4”.
Solomon Holden-Betts ran in the 1,600-meter Invitational feature, finishing fourth in 4:36.23 as Corning’s Ashton Bange won in a swift 4:21.21. Zach Arria, Doug Clark, Brayden Bolton and Nathan Glidden were fourth in the 4×400 relay in 3:55.74.
Grayson Brady, topping 10 feet, was second to Westhill’s Carter Buckman (10’6”) in the pole vault, while David Dobrowolski was third in the weight throw with 43’11 3/4” as Gibson Boudov (39’2 1/4”) was seventh. Killian added a seventh-place high jump of 5’6”
B’ville’s girls team, who won at Utica College on Dec. 19, also had some big moments at the Westhill meet, starting in the very first race when Sydney McKenney, in the 55 hurdles, won in 9.26 seconds to the 9.41 from Westhill’s Kate Bendall.
A second title was claimed by McKenney in the pole vault, where she holds the school record and topped 10’6” here as no one else got to 9 feet. Also, McKenney was eighth in the 55 sprint in 7.92 seconds with Mia Pozzi 11th in 8.01.
Avamarie Davis, Rachel Becker, Madelyn MacCollum and Olivia Bartlett ran the 4×400 in 4:38.95, second to Liverpool’s winning 4:27.16. Then Davis, Pozzi, Madison Kennedy and Kelsey Dwyer were second in the 4×200 in 1:54.31 to Skaneateles’ winning 1:52.96.
Dwyer was fourth in the pole vault behind McKenney, clearing 7 feet, with Natalie Bartkowiak fifth in the triple jump (30’7 3/4”) and Julianna Gingrich getting a sixth-place shot put toss of 28’11”.
Kennedy ran the 600 in 1:49.76 for fifth place as Clare Horan (1:50.22) was eighth. Kamryn Barton was eighth in the 1,000 in 3:27.77
