CENTRAL NEW YORK – Already off to a strong start in the 2022-23 season, the Jordan-Elbridge wrestling team built on that momentum with a 4-1 mark at the Dec. 10 Brett Dixon Memorial Duals at Central Square.
Only the host Redhawks beat the Eagles in a 51-24 decision. Otherwise, J-E toppled Cazenovia 37-28, handled Syracuse City 42-12, routed Rome Free Academy 57-12 and got past East Syracuse Minoa 54-24.
Along the way, Jack Lamson won all four of his contested bouts, alternating between 152 and 145 pounds as Henry Smith was a perfect 3-0 on the mat, also in those two weight classes.
Dylan Nolan’s own 3-0 mark at 132 pounds included three pins in a combined span of less than two minutes as Micah Muhlnickel went 2-1 at 138 pounds and Glen Sanchez was 2-2 at 160 pounds.
J-E continued to roll Wednesday, against Chittenango, where it took advantage of a full roster to beat the Bears by a score of 51-18.
Liam Mantell’s 75-second pin over Dan Mahle at 110 pounds set the tone as, two bouts later, Kaylee Swalgin, at 126 pounds, held off Anthony Cayea 6-4.
It took just 32 seconds for Lamson to pin Wesley Chandler as Sanchez pinned Quentin Mohamed in the third period. Forfeits went to Nolan, Smith, Ethan Youngs (172 pounds), Noah White (285 pounds) and Lucas Witter (118 pounds).
Marcellus took part in the Dave Buck Memorial Tournament at Elmira and then faced Mexico Wednesday night, making quite a comeback to beat the Tigers 38-33.
With five bouts to go, the Mustangs trailed 33-11, having only got on the board when Trevor Rankin, at 132, pinned Cody Neville before Colin Scherer’s 19-4 technical fall over Tanner Bellomo at 138.
As it turned out, the bout at 152 swung the match. In six tense minutes, Anthony Decapio edged Manuel Pelton-Vazquez 8-6, and from there it was all pins in Marcellus’ favor.
Dan Okhman (160) pinned Seth Prentice in 66 seconds and Chris Doshna (172 pounds) took 10 fewer seconds to finish off Renne Kinikin.
Elliott Barbosa kept it going at 189 with a second-period fall over Dan Miller before the decisive bout at 215 where Jayden Abbott, in 82 seconds, pinned Jaiden Gibson for the clinching six points.
West Genesee had a strong run in the Valley Memorial Duals, claiming four of five matches and only taking a defeat to host Central Valley Academy in a 57-8 romp.
But the Wildcats beat Mount Markham 60-12 and edged Gouverneur 37-36 before the CVA match and then closed things out later in the day by topping Chittenango 51-18 and Little Falls 53-14.
Back in league action last Wednesday night, WG struggled against Cicero-North Syracuse, taking a 60-14 defeat to the Northstars.
Austin Feisinger did get a win at 110 pounds, beating Kevin Mossow 7-2, while Logan Willis (126) earned a 49-second pin over Ahmad Baqaakhail and Maxx Feisinger, at 152, needed just 19 seconds to pin Luke Hogue.
