CENTRAL NEW YORK – Within a 24-hour span, each of the area’s three high school wrestling teams had their season-opening matches, but only Jamesville-DeWitt/Christian Brothers Academy found the win column.
The Rams’ 54-18 victory over Syracuse City featured just three bouts won on the mat, highlighted by Cameron Beecher, at 285 pounds, pinning Bradford Dailey in 54 seconds.
At 160 pounds, Gerald Vielhauer needed just 66 seconds to pin Matt Jackson, while Nathan Finn had to wait until the second period at 145 pounds to pin Jose Montalvo.
Otherwise, all the points were gained by forfeits in six weight classes to Dominic Shiano (102 pounds), Karunmay Aggarwal (110 pounds), Matt Dougherty (118 pounds), Matt Fallon (132 pounds), Edward Morris (138 pounds) and Michael Darling (215 pounds).
This happened as Fayetteville-Manlius found modest success in last Wednesday’s match against Adirondack, though it still lost to the Wildcats 50-21.
Jackson Schwab won his heavyweight match by pinning Colin White in 3:11, while Harrison Schwab needed an overtime takedown at 138 to top Braden White 8-6. Graham Dauszka (110) got a forfeit as Eric Kozlowski (126) had a 19-10 loss to Jacob Strain.
F-M went from there to Saturday’s Andersen Tournament at Cicero-North Syracuse, where Schwab finished third at 215 when he pinned Falconer’s Devyn Morrison in 51 seconds for the Hornets’ best finish.
East Syracuse Minoa only contested five bouts against Central Square and lost all of them in a 72-0 defeat, the closest call at 126, where Caiden Scott had a 4-1 loss to the Redhawks’ Jaxon Perkins.
