BALDWINSVILLE – Though it may have proved discouraging, the Baldwinsville girls basketball team’s defeat to Jamesville-DeWitt in the Nov. 26 final of the Bill Middleton Tip-Off Tournament did not prove too damaging.
For when the Bees resumed action Tuesday night at Baker High School against visiting New Hartford, it jumped out to a quick advantage and maintained it the rest of the way, beating the Spartans 58-43.
New Hartford had seen one of Section III’s all-time leading scorers, Kaia Henderson, leave for Ohio State, and was still searching for some new players to replace some of that production.
B’ville was strong on both ends during the first quarter, grabbing an 18-8 lead, and though it had some mid-game struggles, it never let the Spartans get too close, either.
Pulling away late, the Bees were led by Carlie Young, who hit on four 3-pointers to account for more than half of her game-high 20 points.
Madison Polky stepped up to earn nine points, while Ava Graham had seven points. Maddie Simons (six points) and Margaret Solomon (five points) also helped as Kyrah Wilbur was held to four points. Emily Alt and Danielle Lucas led New Hartford with 13 points apiece.
Now the Bees would head into its December slate, its only game next week a Tuesday-night trip to Utica Proctor, after which it is off until the Dec. 16 league opener against Fayetteville-Manlius.
