CENTRAL NEW YORK – Going into October, the Baldwinsville girls soccer team’s primary aim was to see if it could upend any number of highly-routed opponents and sneak into the post-season.
This quest was hurt again when the Bees faced Section V’s Rochester Mercy last Monday night and took a 2-0 defeat.
Between them, B’ville goalies Carlie Young and Alyssa Luce made six saves. Mercy was able to net both of its goals in the first half and never let the Bees answer.
That set up a match last Thursday night at Liverpool, where the Bees hoped to atone for getting shut out, 1-0, by the Warriors when they first met on Sept. 20.
All went well for B’ville’s defense in the first half as it kept Liverpool off the board, with Young and Luce on their way to a combined total of 10 saves.
Much of the second half remained scoreless, too, but in the final minutes Grace Muller put the Warriors out in front, scoring one goal and assisting on the other, by Alexa Marsh, withMya Wright assisting on Muller’s tally.
In Saturday’s non-league game against Christian Brothers Academy, B’ville finally was able to put together an attack that worked on a consistent basis, leading to a first-half scoring flurry in a 3-0 win over the Brothers.
Ella Valentine got the Bees on the board in the 17th minute. Just six minutes later, it was 2-0, with Nicole Pelletier able to find the net, and then Valentine returned to net her second goal in the 31st minute.
Cruising from there, B’ville improved its overall record to 4-9 ahead of a final week of the regular season where it would face West Genesee, Fayetteville-Manlius and Bishop Ludden, all of them difficult tests.
